Default How to stop Recording Series function from recording repeats?

I just set up Gary Radnich Show for Record Series. Problem is that the series recorder records the repeat telecast that happens three hours later on the same channel. Is there a way to prevent this?

In your recording options there should be a choice to record first run episodes only (vs all episodes)

I can have my DVR set to record first-run episodes only, and it will still pick up the occasional repeat. This seems to happen with The Daily Show on Comedy Central a lot, but I've seen it with a lot of other programs, too. After carefully watching for a pattern, I think I figured it out. For some reason, the show description for a given episode will sometimes say, "no description available". When an episode of a series I record has that description, the DVR will record it no matter what.

I have noticed the random recordings too. I think in some cases it is because of the Description listing like ModemGhost mentioned. I have also noticed that the First Air date isn't always correct. I recorded a "new" episode of Bath Crashers last week and the Air Date was 9/20/2010 yet it recorded on 9/13/2010. Some shows that have recorded and not been new have had no First Air date on them.

To the O.P.: Did you just get your DVR or have you had it for awhile? I ask because when my parents got a new DVR some shows were recording all episodes for about a week because they had never aired or cached on the DVR. It took about a week for the DVR to learn and the extra recordings stopped.

Go to menu-manage recordings-manual and you can set up a recurring manual recording. It's just like setting up a VCR. I have to do that for shows on the NFLN that show more than once per day, I set it up to record channel 212 from 4 Pm to 5 Pm Monday through Friday so I don't get repeats.

I'll have to try that with some of those sports programming that have dead space for like 5 hours after the game is over (those UEFA Champions League soccer channels for instance).

I do this for Monday Night Football during the season since the game is titled differently every week.
