Default Having DirecTV installed next week, any thing I should know ahead of time?

Hello everyone, I am going to soon be part of the DirecTV family and installation will happen next week. I am really excited about the HD as well. I am going to have two HD tvs and two Standard tv's hooked up.
Anyway, is there anything I should know about installation? How long should it take? I've heard horror stories but I am taking a chance here after having had a horrible experience with cable. I am hoping for the best!

im there usually 3 hours, but i dont leave things hanging, i go over all operation of the system, setup multi room dvr if its a hr24 system, plus talk to the home owner for some reason for too long...

anyway it depends on your current wiring, how old the house is, and all that stuff.

I just had a 5 year old house that had all shorted cables in it, couldnt line test any of them. cable worked on it, and so did direct but i coudlnt send power through any of the wires, had to put the inserter in the utility room(which is better anyway)

sometimes i show up with the dish all put together, receivers all put together and then it doesnt take that long. Most of the waiting time is saying yes yes yes yes yes yes no yes living room yes yes yes yes bedroom yes yes yes yes bedroom2 yes yes yes yes den yes yes yes yes to the automated direct computer.........and then you get " i couldnt understand you i will now transfer you"

Oh, The wonderful IVR. Don't you have a handheld computer for activations?

As for the original question, are you getting an HDDVR? If not you should, it's part of the free upgrade promo right now. And with the HDDVR if you have multi room viewing, you can watch your recordings from your other HD receiver

My 1st time having it installed took like 6 hours, only because we have the dish in the backyard, and couldnt put in on the roof, tree in the way.

Guy had to have a pole and stuff brought to him.

And the 2nd time because the wiring was already their took like 2 hours, so id say 2 & half to 3 & half tops, depending on if you have a clear view and dont have many tree's.

Hope this helped, and enjoy.

We have a lot of room in the back and a big roof. And no, we did not get the DVR but only because we really don't find ourselves in situations where we record shows and need to watch them later. Does it really bring a better experience?
Also, one question, I have cable, so will the technician installing my satellite be able to use those same cables? Or will he bring a new set of cables to put all over my house?
My dad is the one who made this change, he's in charge, but I just want to be informed. I am really excited here.

Don't make the mistake and sign at 2 year contract with indirectv because after your promotion price , your price will go up considerbly.
also don't let them mount your dish on the roof and put holes in your roof. customer service is horrible and will lie to you. if it rains, snows, windy, etc. , you won't have service. indirect will give you 250 channels and 175 of them are informercials.
on demand also takes hours to download a movie, so plan on watching your show the next day. indirectv runs the same shows on demand over and over and over.

I warned you, don't make the mistake I once make.!!
better stick to what you have. After I post this, I will get slammed and get called all kinds of names on here by all of the Indirectv employees or friends of employees. I can't we to see what they have to say.

Um...didn't expect this to become a flame war, should have brought my shield. Anyway, I got this installed today and I am very happy with the results. Although there is one channel, 448 "Enlace Christian Television" which is included in the choicextra package (my grandma was looking forward to this channel) and wouldn't you know it? It's not available. That's my only complaint but I really don't mind, still, I'd like to know why its in included in the package but won't appear on TV.

I'm glad you are happy with your service. I have been with DirecTV for 3 years at my place and 7 years before that at my parents. If you are not getting that channel and it is listed as part of your package call DirecTV up and see if they need to do something to activate it or something. Some people may complain about the customer service but I had no problem when I called them yesterday about HD Service. I was off the phone in under 10 minutes and very happy with the results.

So i was supposed to get Direct TV installed this past Wednesday and the technician called during my install window and told me that the HD boxes didn't come in and that I would have to reschedule, wow-not off to a great start with D*. Anyway, my question is regarding picture quality; I currently have 4 HD TV's set up and Comcast had to install splitters and an amplifier to improve the picture quality/signal strength. When they do in fact come out what kind of set up should I expect and should I request anything to enhance the signal strength? I'm very picky about my picture quality and I really do not want to be disappointed, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...
