What is HD?

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE:
Ps3 connected to tv through HDMI cable Sony 36" HDTV KD-36XS955 My ps3 games on 720p or 1080i(PS3 doesn't allow aspect ratio to 4:3 on 720/1080) display beautifully but for some reason the t.v. cuts of about 1cm of the left and right side. Its annoying I cant see certain info on games. This doesn't happen on 480p(16:9 or 4:3) through HDMI cable, but that resolution sucks!! Also, on my digital channels it does the same for HD broadcast shows. My analog channels fit perfect, but analog sucks too!! If I purchase HD component cables instead of HDMI cable would it fix the game problem? I could deal with the digital channels but no the game! My model doesn't let me change 16:9 to 4:3 on digital channels, only pan-scan(cuts out a lot) and letterbox(not on HDMI video mode). I NEED HELP!! I've TRIED EVERYTHING I CANT THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE. NEED HELP BEFORE I MAKE THE MISTAKE OF GETTING THE COMPONENT CABLE!! |

Sounds to me like an over scan issue that you probably will not be able to fix. I don't know if there is a service menu you can go into that will allow you to change over scan.
Just saw the comment about the component cable. Do you have a component cable you can use on your STB and see if that comes out any different than using HDMI? -Shark2k |
