Default To buy now or buy later ... that is the question

This is the dilemma I'm currently in ... I want to buy a new LCD HDTV , but I'm not in a rush because of living situation, so with that in mind , I don't know if I should take advantage of the upcoming BlackFriday Deals ( just saw Sears will have a 42" Sylvania for $699 and many other deals to come ) or should I wait let say until next year before February ( when DTV kicks in & before Lost returns for Season 5 ) , since probably retailers will have great deals at that time , what would you do ? , currently I'm set with what I have, my question is aimed at price drops and better deals because of the season BF, Xmas, DTV deadline, also price range has to be under $800 ( my budget for this ).... Thanks for your comments (^_^)

It all depends how long you are prepared to wait. Prices are dropping all the time so inevitably you will save money if you delay your purchase. Its your call.

I honestly don't know why everybody is so damn worried abouy HD this and HD that. Why? We did without it for what? Approximately 60 years? Nothing but standard def with crts. Now all the sudden its " You gotta buy an HD set." Why? Because its the new fashion now? Everybody has to have one because the other guy has one. I myself don't give a damn what they come out with next. Crts were around alot longer and are time tested. We know they work. I've been hearing about way too many problems with these flat panels and there have been many many returns at the stores. Hell, i myself probably have about 10 crt sets ranging from 13" to 27". And a 43" hd projection. Seems kinda silly investing and putting trust in an inferior technology that we know nothing about and hasn't even stood the test of time. I'm fine with a good crt as long as it works right. I've heard it over and over from tv professionals an experts. They will tell you that the crt sets have better contrast, and even brightness and color in most cases than any lcd set. They get you set into something, then a few years later, expect you to go out and buy everything all over again. Same with the so-call blu-ray junk. Now i have to buy all my movies over again?? I though dvd was good enough. Heck, it beat vhs which even served us all well for so many years. Seem like a waste of time to me.

Even if plasma provided a better picture and I think the jury is still out on that question, why would anyone want to buy a plasma TV unless they were going to put it in a "blackout room" (basement maybe?)

Plasma screens reflect too much light. In a normal room, its like you have a mirror facing you whereas LCD "soaks" up outside light and does away with these annoying reflections.

I have plasma TV's in my living room, game room and bedroom and don't have any issues with light reflecting off of them as you describe. Many new LCD TV's have glossy, reflecting screens as well.

Plasma has the picture better, absolutely and it has been proven time and time again.

I've been hearing all over the news that there are going to be extra-deep discounts on Black Friday this year, and since retailers are depending on this weekend to set the tone for the rest of the season, they really need people to buy now. So if you're thinking of buying a TV anyway, now seems like a really good time... also, I think that Plasmas and LCDs have extremely good cutting-edge technology that has worked well with minimal problems both for myself and most people I know.
