Posted on another thread but will try here. Turned on tv and nothing happens. standby red light flashes several times and that is it. Tried unplugging. This worked the only other time this has happened, about 5 years ago. Any suggestions?

Possible that the picture tube died or the power supply. You'll have to get it checked out to confirm for sure what's wrong.

i might be a new person here but i do know one thing. dont give advice if you have no idea what you are talking about. the picture tube (crt) has not died on his tv. this model is notorious for having whats called the mcz ic's go bad and more than likely that is the problem. call a repair shop and have them come out unless you like getting hernias.

Practice what you preach, newbie. Borromini said that it was possible that either the CRT or the power supply had died. He did not say that either had happened. He then advised the OP to get the TV checked.

On the other hand, you said in a definitive manner "the picture tube (crt) has not died on his tv". While that is possible, you are not in a position to make that statement in that manner because you have not checked the TV yourself.

For your information, Borromini has been a member of this forum for a lot longer than you and has given good solid advice to hundreds of posters. You owe him an apology for the arrogant manner in which you responded, "dont give advice if you have no idea what you are talking about.". He has a proven track record. You have yet to establish one, good or bad.

The answer is simple. No one on this forum can give anything but a guess, either educated or uneducated, without actually seeing the unit. It's repair shop time. Sorry.
