Great Picture, Great Sound, Great Price. So I find myself asking what happened this evening. Why? Well a TV that I purchased just this past December is now having some serious problems. I purcahsed a Samsung TX-3079WH from Best B*y just a little over a month ago. Wonderful HD picture. Crystal Clear, deep vibrant color, Sharp. I love it. However, yesterday evening I heard a poping sound like a arc or spark. When I looked up at the tv from my book everything looked fine. An hour later I was watching and heard the sound again and saw the tube dim out for a fraction of a second and come back. Hmmmm. As I watched today it happens every 20 minutes or so. Just for a fraction of a second, poping sound, tube dims and comes back.
Well, considering the TV isn't even 45 days old I have called Best B*y and they are sending someone out on Tuesday. So far BB has been curteous and quick to respond to my request. They guy tells me though that if I had purchased the $199 support plan that they would just swap it out. My reply was is it unreasonable to think that a brand new TV should work more than 30 days without having an extended warranty. If not then they should just put the extra 200 bucks on the cost of the TV and stop acting like they are giving you a deal. Anybody else have a Samsung, this model in particular? It was a choice between this one and a Sony and honestly, this picture was better than the Sony side by side. My last TV was a Sony that died after 2 years so I was so enamoured with them either. I'll keep you guys posted as to what the problem is and how I get it solved. |

Alright.. the best b*y technician came by and looked at the TV. Like most electronics it decided it would not act up when there was someone there to fix it. So instead of happening 3 times an hour it took a whole hour before the whole arc screen diming thing happened. He saw it and looked it up on Samsungs support website (we have no access too of course). He is going to preplace the main circuit board and the Magnetic Control section. It's been a while since I have been in the back of a TV, but this looks pretty straight forward. The internal website talks about a couple other issues this Magnetic Control Kit should fix. Parts should arrive in a week or two and then they will come back to install them. So far service has been very good. Lets see if this fixes it.
They repair guy was very professional. Something to really apprecaite these days. |

Reset will not alter the service menu settings. It will ONLY alter the user settings accessed with the menu button..... HTH, Steve

Well it been a month and I have had 3... 3 visits from the tech folks from B*st B*y. Believe it or not, they tech order a powersupply and control board twice and they got it wrong and shipped the wrong one twice. The problem has gotten worse. Not only is the TV still having the short problem, but now the screen is becoming distorted around the edges.
The good news.... I don't know if I should post this right now.. I might jinx something. The good news is that the tech has decided that the TV is defective and it should be replaced and B@st B@y has agreed. So, now I am waiting for BB corporate to send the approval to the local BB store today and I can swap it out this weekend. What I don't know is if they will force me to get another Samsung model TX-R3079WH or if they will allow me to take a store credit and purchase another TV. A better TV. The repair tech told me they are having lots of problems with this model. There are some design issues. I know that even thought it has fantastic color and clarity, this short issue along with the distortion issue would make me change my recommendation of this particular model. If I am forced to get the same model hope it will not have the same problem. If not, then I need to figure out which LCD 32" TV I want to buy to replace this Direct View Tube TV. Want to hear something funny... my favorite is the Samsung 32" LCD model. Again, beautiful picture.. I just wonder about the quality issues. Any suggestions? |

Go with the 32" LCD.......I returned the Slim-Fit after 2 weeks because of the geometry issues......I didn't even have the box it came in.......BB wanted to charge me a 15% restock fee and swap it for another......I spoke to a manager.....the TV *is* defective.....the design flaw makes it impossible to get a correct picture. He waived the restock fee and I spent even MORE money with BB on the 32" LCD.......I *knew* i shoulda checked the threads before making the purchase......I figured at less than $800.00 I couldn't go wrong.............wrong!!
I was considering the Sony LCD as I have the 42" LCD-RP in the family room.....but I really liked the black bezel on the Sammy for the bedroom...... My .02....... Steve

I want to, but it's a grand more. I know the price is going to come down considerable over the next 12-24 months, but I have to get a replacement this weekend. Wasn't planning on spending that much on a bedroom TV.

Swapped it out for the Samsung LCD LN-R328W. Just set it up so I need to do some tuning. BB was very good about swapping it out. No hassle. I looked at the Sony CRT but it was just too big. 168 pounds of 2 flights of stairs.
I guess my comments will move over t the Flat Screen section. Now I have to find out the service menu for this model. Thanks for the comments from everyone. |

I have a Samsung TX-R3079WH that turns off every 5 minutes. This TV model has alot of picture tube problems. I am so pissed at Samsungs. They will not fix it or replace it. I am hiring a lawyer and plan on suing Samsung for the price of the TV. If anyone would like to be added to the lawsuit and try to recover some of your money let me know. The more people I can get with the same problem the better chance we will win.
