Pretty pricey considering what's available new these days.

May be but I bet it still has a better picture than any LCD or plazma you put beside it.

I don't know about "blow away". My Old Sony was pretty sweet. Those old 34'' HD XBR's were some of the sweetest PQ (SD and HD) I ever seen in a TV. But I would probably put my plasma overall PQ slightly higher over the Sony for HD. But that is probably because it is 16'' bigger and does not weigh 250 pounds. Many people say FP CRT and plasma very much rival each other for the best PQ in the buisness. I agree and since CRT is a gonner, plasma is supreme.

The best pictures on Sony's 34" CRT sets were on the KV34-XBR910, KD34-XBR960 and KD34-XS955. These were the only 34" models that had the Superfinepitch 1080i HiScan FD Trinitron picture tubes. All of the others had the lower resolution Very Fine Pitch CRTs. The difference in PQ between the models with the SFP tube and those without (including the rather disappointing XBR970) was noticeable at any distance closer than about 12 feet.

Note: The SFP tubes were also used in the 30" XBR910, 30" XS955 and 36" XS955. The two XBR910 models lacked digital tuners.

I know the feeling, I have the KV-34HS420 and must say it is the best set I,ve had to date (while it's not the SuperFinePitch XBR's it's a really fine CRT)...

I too am going plasma but I won't retire the KV...it's going to my basement media room (to replace a 12 year old Toshiba, in a older 5.1 set-up there)...

Makes me (almost) wish I wasn't going plasma...I live about a 25 minute drive southwest of you.

Let see a $300 USED TV!! It weighs a ton!! I would take the Toshiba 32AV502R/U for $400 from Best Buy!! I am pretty sure the HD picture on it is much better than a Plasma!! That tv is 5 years old!! Please don't come here and pick fights with members here that contribute ALLOT!!

Good Luck
