HDMI Issue: No Video / No Sound (Brand New Dell Studio Desktop to Onkyo 607 Receiver)

Hi all --

I bought a brand new dell studio desktop that came with both HDMI and DVI output jacks and have an Onkyo 607 receiver that works well with all of my HDMI components except the computer. The computer easily outputs DVI or HDMI video directly to the monitor (which has inputs for both formats), but as soon as I try to route the signal through the receiver I lose video capability. Furthermore, I have not been able to get sound from the computer except through the headphone jack or one of the 7.1 jacks in the desktop. I am quite confused, as the computer has Realtek HD software installed that acknowledges my HDMI output capability!

I know suggesting solutions may be difficult without further specs on the computer, but hopefully you can provide some fairly straightforward solutions so that I a) don't have to keep switching my monitor's input from DVI for my computer to HDMI for all other video input (and can instead let my receiver be the singular hub), and b) can get digital audio out of the computer, preferably with the HDMI cable.

Please let me know if there's other information that you need to assess the situation and I would be happy to do my homework overnight and respond with the update.

What type of video card do you have - Make, Model or is it onboard?

What are the capabilities of the 607 - can it accept the resolution being input?

I think all of the relevant specs of the computer are below, and I am almost certain that the receiver should support whatever the computer is outputting (Realtek gives a number of options that are listed on the front of the receiver).

- Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

As far as the sound goes, do you have the ATI HDMI audio drivers installed? If so, is that option selected in your control panel settings? Could be wrong, but normally Realtek wouldn't output thru HDMI, just through your analog or SPDIF connections.

I have an HK AVR (little older one - component, no HDMI) and if I run component from the pc to the TV, no problem, but if I connect to the AVR, the pc doesn't recognize it and I haven't figured that one out yet since it has no problem with my DISH receiver or other components - this with Win7. I have another little newer HK with HDMI in and it works fine with my other HTPC with an ATI 2600XT card - with WinXP.

I will check the drivers tonight and see if they need to be installed / updated.

Any thoughts on video? I've read about the monitor and computer "speaking to each other" in some other threads, but does that necessarily mean that I won't be able to pass the signal through the receiver?

Have you tried all of the HDMI inputs on your Onkyo? If you turn on the TV, then the Onkyo, then the computer, do you get any video (or any other combo, ie: computer, then Onkyo, then TV)? Have you tried swapping the HDMI cable with another one? Is this a TV, or is it a Dell monitor with HDMI and DVI inputs? If it is a Dell monitor, have you checked with Dell to see if there is some sort of handshake issue when a receiver is between a computer and the monitor?

Me thought that win7 was supposed to excel in this area???? Have you tried your newer HK with your win7 outfit??
