External HD for holding movies

I would like to get an external hard drive to put all my movies on. Then I want to be able to connect that hard drive to my HDTV (or) connect it to my laptop then my laptop to tv with HDMI.

I already do the second when I have a movie I want to watch. I connect my HDMI cable to my tv and watch the movie. But I'm running out of room on my hard drive and am wondering what the best thing would be to do.

If your running out of room an external USB 2.0 hard drive would be the way to go. It is a great way to save stuff, backup critical files and share between computers. And they are very inexpensive now a days too. You can find a 1 TB drive for around $100.

No offense intended, but I know all of that already. I mean about the $100 1TB external hard drives. I've been looking into them and am wondering if they're the best option.

I'm going to be having 4-8GB .mkv movies which are 720p quality. I'm wondering if hooking up my external hd to my laptop and my laptop HDMI to my tv is the best choice, that's all.

On a side note: I live in Wisconsin and Brett Favre has always been my QB. But he signed to the Vikings today and has been branded a TRAITOR by the state of Wisconsin.

I am a bit confused on your question then. Are you just asking if this will work? Then the answer is.. Of course it will work.

Is this your "best choice"? I would say so. For only arounfd $100 you can load as many movies and shit that you want without filling up your C: drive. They sell 16 gb flash drives now for around $25, but will only be able to hold 2 or 3 movies before they are full.

Problem is he still needs the drive and does he want to spend $100 or so just to circumvent the laptop? Only advantage is permanence and not having to connect each time. Laptop drives have come down in price quite a bit so putting a bigger drive in the laptop is another easy solution.
