Thumbs up Free RIS 2009 Internet Security Suite + More

I had some runs in with the: worms, virus, cloaked-malware, trojans you name it.

Tested:

PrevX Home
PrevX Business
ThreatFire
Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus
PCT Tools Internet Security
Comodo Internet Security Pro Free
Avira Free
Avira Preminum with Internet Security
AVG Free
AVAST Home
AVAST Cleaner
Sophe AV Cleaner
VIPRE AV/SPY
VIPRE Rescue
A-Squared Free
Spyware Terminator
F-Secure Rookit Cleaner
RAV 2009 Free
RIS 2009 Free
RFW 2009 Free

Test on: cloaked-malware: linkinfo.dll, IsDrv118.sys
others like: modifyPE.exe
rookits like: i.CMD

AVAST Home found the i.CMD but all it could do was quarantine it but it could keep it under wraps. AVG Free found the linkinfo.dll it couldn't clean it so all it could do was put it into the vault. But I found out later the files was still present on the system.

RAV, RIS I didn't get to these them with the other major threat which was: autorun Worms which are found on USB Flash and USB HDD drives. These made my internal HDD from D to F unable to access the files or drive. Windows couldn't find RECYCLER 000000.com

I use another program for that fix... None of the above could fix that issue.

RAV 2009 Free found 57 viruses on test rig that's more than PrevX did which was 34 threats. It could only remove them for a price. RAV is free and it cleaned the files and I mean clean them not delete them. Now on files that were in zip form and couldn't be saved those where deem to be deleted.

So now RIS which includes both RFW 2009 free and RAV 2009 free. These files are very hard to find on the internet. I found them and place them on a host site. There is even a better version of the free RAV there too. RFW is just the firewall only. There is another program call Rising PC Doctor in China it's called Kata Internet Security Aid (assistant) that's free also. What that does is trojan and spyware defector also can scan your system for it's needed patches for OS (client/server) as well as Office 2003/2007. Downloads/installs in one shot. It can prompt you or it will do it. The program also repairs the OS if it finds errors. Not bad for free. If you use the RIS it support PC Doctor.

RIS 2009 free (chinese version with english support)

Unfortunately there's no package that will catch everything 100%. The most important thing is that the program doesn't allow the virus to spread or cause harm.

Best thing I've found is user education. Informed users that don't go to questionable sites and know not to click on suspicious links are better then the best A/V.

I see you didn't list Sophos. They have a great A/V package that works very well. For businesses, it has a lot more features too such as a firewall you can configure and Network Access Control. It will even remove most existing A/V programs when pushed from the server.

I use the below on my server OS running R2 Enterprise Edition SP2 and all wired and wireless systems: Rising is pretty good and adding patches to stuff that's needs to be added. I've send them good number of infected files zipped up of course. I also use PrevX Business 3.0 I got a license from them to test that one out and report bugs an etc.. I see whatever that one catches I send that file to Rising if they're miss anything. But right now Rising RIS 2009 Free has protected the systems here 100% and it does it on it's own. Reports to me what it finds. Tries to clean the infection if now moves it to hidden location if it can't move it it will remove it (delete it). Rising PC Doctor can detect what you have your system that needs a new patch and downloads/installs it. Also scans for trojans/spyware cleans/remove. Also auto repair. That's free also.

That's good advice.
I run the Vista updates regularly.
Also run Spybot and Ad-Aware from time to time.
And I certainly never whimsically log on to questionable sites.
I've never had a serious problem nor any indication of such.
Common sense often prevails.
