Boxee alpha version goes public

Boxee is a media center application for Mac OS X, Ubuntu Linux & Windows that's based on the open source XBMC project.

The Mac & Ubuntu versions of the media suite have been available to private alpha testers for a while now. Last week the alpha version became available for everyone (for all operating systems).

The guys from the Download Squad site did test the Windows version & they were quite positive about it.

No replies? Boxee is very cool. For once I feel like it's worth having my computer hooked to my large screen monitor.

Boxee in my opinion is more of a social networking tool than a true HTPC software package. I was one of the closed alpha testers and I gave up on it after only a week of using it.

Now if you want a package similar to Boxee and has the abiliity to customise and expand on functionality take a look at XBMC. http://www.xbmc.org

Boxee took most of it's basic code from the XBMC project so you can find it very similar in function, but with a much larger fanbase and far more support. Give it a look!
