Oh I know what the GUI looks like, I just wanted to know how well it performed? That's the whole issue with these media players how well do they handle large Media files like 300MB to 10GB plus are they any audio or video sync errors.

I wonder if anyone who have Hauppauge's 1212 HD PVR has the problem of audio drifting in and out of sync with the video with his or her's captured m2ts video file? I have noticed this during video capturing and during playback. I don't think it's my computer, it has a core 2 quad and 4 gb of ram. I'm using the software that came with the PVR. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I know this thread is old but I couldn't figure out how to start a new one; so I'm hoping one of you more experienced users can help me out. I just bought my WD TV HD media player. I'm trying to figure out how to play my blu ray movies. I use AnyDVD HD to rip the movies to an image in my hard drive. I use Virtual clone drive to mount them to a virtual drive so that the image plays in my computer using Power DVD. How can I play these image files? When I connect the drive to the WD TV HD, I can see the ISO files, but it tells me that the format is not supported. I tried converting the files using the media converter software that comes with it, but it won't recognize the files either. What's the best way/software to rip blu ray movies to a hard drive so that the WD TV HD recognizes and plays them?

AVI, MP4, MP2 try those... But if you see that error for the format, it's telling you it can't handle it. Or there is some chip to box you.

They purposely do not support ripped Blu-rays due to the copy protection. You would need to convert the files to one of the containers that the WD Media player will support. I don't have any software suggestions as I use my Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR Video Capture device for this. It makes .m2ts files which are supported. You need to have a player that will output HD via components or another PC to use it though.

Rich to bad you can do a youtube video showing how to setup HPVR to the digital DVR then back to the PC. By-the-way is that blog is a part of this domain right? Is that available for all members or only to the mods like yourself to use for bloging?

That blog was started by Cass and myself to have a place to store information about commonly asked questions so we wouldn't have to type the same answers over and over. It is much easier to find a subject on the blog than on the forum. It is open for anyone to read, but mostly just for me to blog. I have taken a few subjects on a submission basis. Since Cass has turned over the forum to IB, it is now completely separate.

Yes Rich I think you should do a hook-up diagram so other can see what the HPVR can do. I never bother with this device but I would like to see what you have come up with. I am sure other here would too. If you got the time though?

Here you go:

Component video is run from the DVR to the capture box. There are pass through outputs to connect the HDTV. Also audio. Then a USB cable is used between the capture box and the computer.

Nice! Oh you've showing the WD HD TV connection but you're using Computer via USB instead of WD Black Book external HDD? what about the Hauppauge HD-PVR you got a diagram for that one with your DVR..

How long is the USB cable from WD HD TV to the PC?
Do you have the HTPC near the HDTV what I mean to say are both in the same room?

Like I have my HTPC in the family room in the basement. I am thinking about sticking under the living room and then run the VGA cable up through the floor. Since the HTPC fans are loud to keep the system cool enough for HDDs and PVRs.

Boy might recommend this to some people. I found the WD TV HD for $89.99 + shipping + tax (online gee wiz) Makes that come to $102.

WD HD Media Player will not play the files ripped from AnyDVD HD. You will need a few programs to convert the files ripped from Blu-ray using AnyDVD HD into playable video file. Before you do that you need to know which video stream file on the Blu-ray disc is the main movie. There are many posts on this board or on AnyDVD HD board that will explain the steps way better than I could. Then I would use a program called Tsmuxer to convert the file into m2ts file, but before you do that you need to make sure the English or other language you want to watch the movie with audio file is not DTS HD. If it is, then you will need to demux the video stream into both a video file and an audio file by using TSmuxer. Then use an audio convertion program called EA3TO to convert the DTS HD into AC3 file that most of video convertion programs will understand. After that, use TSmuxer to re-mux the video and AC3 files back into one m2ts file. For some older Blu-ray discs you can use Nero 9's Nero vision to convert the m2ts into MPEG 2 HD which WD Media Player will play. Somehow Nero vision doesn't works on newer Blu-Ray titles. For those I use Alive HD Video Converter. Both TSmuxer and EA3TO are freeware, but Alive HD Video Converter is not.

Messing around with Blu-Ray DVD files, I'll tell you, it's not for the faint of heart and often you will be doing this

than not.

Tip, I think you are confusing the WD HD media player with the Hauppauge HD capture box. The capture box is the equivalent of a capture card. There is no connection for a HDD, it requires a computer to run the software for recording on the HDD. Similar to a tuner card.

The USB cable is as long as you need, mine is about 3 feet.

Yes I have the computer in the same room with the HDTV. I have HTPCs that are designed to run quiet enough.

I use the WD HD media player to connect to my wife's HDTV. I load her HDD with the movie she wants and then she plays it. Works good for her because with only one movie, she can find it easily.
