Hi everyone, I'm new to this thread and was wondering if anyone is using their HD PVR with AT&T Uverse? I have a DVR, but would like to use the secondary box with the Hauppauge to archive my shows directly to a USB hard drive for viewing on either PS3 or Xbox360. I have that part solved, my problem seems to be that the IR does not send the "ON" command before changing the channel on the Uverse box. I have custom programed the PVR with blastercfg.exe and the Uverse remote, tested the results and was able to turn on/off and change channels fine. Any ideas why the option to send an "ON" command before the channel change is not working? The reason I need to do this is because the Uverse box time out and hibernates after 5-6 hours leaving me a recording of a nice blue screen. Thanks for any advice in advance.

A couple of questions about Hauppauge HD DVR.
1. When capturing from Blu-Ray Disc/Player, (I have it connected with pass through component video and optical audio) how do I include 5.1 in the capture? I have the newest firmware/drivers etc. Every option available is 2 Channel Stereo. 2. When capturing from DVR, if I turn off the TV, the screen on my PC goes blue and I capture blank audio and video. (Actually, I capture blue screen video and no audio.) I spoke to tech support and they suggested that the DVR (Scientific Atlanta HD8300) is going to "Blue Screen" when there is no monitor connected, i.e. TV turned off. This does not happen when connected to and capturing from Blu-Ray. I guess, somehow the DVR is able to detect a "Live" monitor connected to it and goes to "Blue Screen" when there is no "Live" monitor connected. Very strange. Anyone have this problem and/or know of a fix? This may be a question for a DVR forum? Thanks in advance. |

Since the Hauppage HD-PVR encodes with the same H.264 codec used on Blu-Ray Disc, the next obvious step would seem to be burning your own Blu-Ray discs from your HDD (DVR). Has anyone tried this yet?
The reason I ask is that I am getting ready to build an HTPC using the Hauppage HD-PVR to capture component video from my DirecTv HD receiver and I want to then make Blu-Ray recordings in HD. I am currently using a 7 year old Panasonic DVD recorder with internal HDD (which I bought new and have logged MANY hours on) to record with. I record to the HDD, then edit out commercials, then divide into one hour segments, and lastly burn to single layer dvd's. That's as good as it got in 2002. Now here we are in 2009 and it's still all I've got because there's still no simple way to do the same thing in HD......unless you live in Japan or Europe where they can pretty much do whatever they want. My main reason for building an HTPC is to be able to record 720p or 1080i (whichever the native source is) to an internal drive just like a DVR, then be able to edit it and burn it to a blank Blu-Ray disc. With the Hauppage HD-PVR it should get me half way there. Now all thats left is to be able to get the H.264 file off the drive and onto a Blu-Ray disc in a way that will be compatable with most Blu-ray players. Has anyone attempted this yet? |

Quick question. Is it possible to output Hauppage HD-PVR to my media server which is in my office below bedroom with closest HD sat box. Would require about 20 foot USB and alot of fishing. Or can I do it via gig network which I have through entire house? I have seen various USB to eternet cables and gender changers on Newegg.
I wish Dish Network would get their act together and just output to network as you probably know they can and it works great by all reports. ( Draco project ). |

Thanks much,
It looks as if the Hauppage bundled software only authors to DVD, and I really want to author to Blu-ray disc. Prices are finally dropping dramatically on blank Blu-ray media. I can get a 25 pack of 4x Blu-ray discs for around $75.00 now at Meritline. It's worth it to me to spend the extra money for the extra recording space when most of my recordings will be likely be football games. Chances are they will under a buck a piece before long. I think I should be able to author to Blu-ray from the Hauppage created h.264 files with most Blu-ray authoring software applications. HD Movie Maker for eample can handle input source formats WMV, MKV, AVI, DivX, XviD, MPEG, MP4, QuickTime Movie, Real Video, AVC/H.264, Flash Video and Camera Videos. I'm hoping it's a straight forward process of recording the componet video at the HD-PVR's maximum bit rate of 15Mbs, editing it with either the bundled software or (worst case scenario) with another hd video editing software application, then authoring with something like Hd Movie Maker. About an hour ago I ordered my Hauppage HD-PVR from NewEgg for $209.00 so the first step is taken and I'm committed now. I'd be glad keep you posted as my build progresses if you like. |

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have been using my Hauppauge fine with my PS3 for several months. Then the other day when I went to record the preview window in the capture module was blank. Needsless to say it wouldnt capture. So to try fix the problem I updated with the lastest driver from the hauppauge site and updated the capture software. Still no luck!!
One difference I have noticed now from before is when on the PS3 I goto set the output to component (so it goes through the hauppauge) it switches fine, then when i select my resolutions a blue screen apppears for a second and then "no signal" in large text. This didnt happen before!! The image then shows fine on the TV (while going through the Hauppauge) But it isnt showing in the capture module!! The capture module say input: 720x480 and nothing next to audio. This is very strange indeed! Does anyone know what the problem is? |

Happens to me from time to time. Unplug power from the 1212 for 10 seconds and reboot the computer fixes it for me.

![]() I think the problem is a bit deeper then that! When I goto select component out on my PS3 going through my hauppauge it switches fine, then when i goto choose a resolution a blue screen flashes up and "no signal" in large text before the signal appears on my TV I have never seen this before! Seems very strange! I have tried switching with other component cables and my cables seem to be working fine. This is really bugging me as I use it to record videos for my youtube which I upload everyweek! I have over 2000 subscribers and I dont want to let them down! |

So to be clear you are outputing video from your PS3 into the 1212 and recording it on your PC, correct?
There are a limited set of resolutions the 1212 will allow. For HD resolutions only 1280x720p/60 or 1920x1080i/30. If the PS3 switches to a non supported resolution for the 1212 like 1920x1080p/60 or 1920x1080p/24, then you would get what you described. I'm not familiar with all of the resolutions the PS3 will output. Why are you switching resolutions in the PS3? What resolution are you switching to? Maybe if you furnish more detail as to what exactly you are doing it would help. What is the source for the videos? Are they DVDs or flash card being played by the PS3 shot on a digital camera? |
