Default HTPC HDMI Audio to Denon 3808 issues

I am having issues getting audio over HDMI playing through the 3808.
I have a HTPC with an ATI HD2600 video card (has audio over HDMI support) connected to HDMI port 3 on the Denon (tried port 1 also) and a Samsung HL-T6187S connected to the HDMI out of the Denon.
Video works fine, but no audio. HDMI is selected, and digital, component and Ipod are all none. This is the Source Select screen:

SOURCE SELECT

Source V.AUX

Assign
HDMI HDMI3
Component NONE
Digital NONE
iPod None

Input Mode HDMI

Decode Mode Auto

Rename V.AUX

Other
Video Select V.AUX
Video Convert ON
Source Level (A) 0dB
Source Level (D) 0dB

When I plug the computer directly into the TV via HDMI, I get audio and video through it. So the computer IS outputting the audio, but the Denon is not "receiving it". Please help!
Thanks!

Default Solved

I got it working using "DVR" as the source. I got back into the manual, and realized that "V.AUX" is for the front panel connectors. While it still allows HDMI connectivity, I am going to have to assume it only allows video pass-through via HDMI when using "V.AUX" as the source.

The HDP as source didn't work either. I had no idea what "HDP" stood for until I did some googling. The only two things I found that could relate to home theater, is High Definition Projector, and High Definition Processor. I'm assuming, since it is an input, that in the Denon's case, it is "Processor", which makes since that only Video can pass through that as well.

The ATI 2xxx and 3xxx series cards do...

Post number two says I got it working, and how/why.
Read halfway down: ati.amd . com/products/hdseries.html under Avivo.

I don't have any high def sources that I play from the PC (yet), so all the audio I play from it is already compressed. That being said, it sounds fine to me (mp3's, Divx, etc) and it's in 5.1 surround, which "most" PC optical outs don't do. I know 99.9% of the onboard sound only outputs 2ch stereo via the digital outs, and Creative cards only output 2ch on the optical outs. So, all in all, until more options come available, the ATI HD 2xxx and 3xxx series cards seem to be the best option, currently, for HTPC audio (if you have HDMI ports on the receiver).

putergod, did you ever find the root cause of this? I just experienced the exact same issue. Plugging the HTPC into the DVR worked, but to my knowledge the other HDMI's should be able to be configured to handle video and audio also.

Only thing I can think of is "working as designed".

For the record, you have saved my sanity! I had the exact same issue with the audio, to say the least I was about to commit myself to the psych ward here if I didn't resolve this. I've spent weeks trying to get a straight answer from ATI, Visiontek, MS and a multitude of other forums. This has been a very painful period in my PC "career", have been building desktops, laptops, servers and HTPCs for about 15 years and I thought I met my match with this one. I had my rig input to the HDP, now to the DVR...OMG all is well, well at least 2-channel input. Now all I have to do is try to figure out how to get the other two formats in Vista to process (DTS etc.).
Again, from the bottom of my heart...thank you.

Hello Putergod

I got exactly that same problem. I know from a hdmi monitor that I got video and sound from the hdmi cable but when i connect the cable from HTPC (Ati Radeon HD2600 XT)to Denon 3808 with these settings i got no sound

DVR HDMI 4 input on the back

SOURCE SELECT

Source DVR

Assign
HDMI HDMI4
Component NONE
Digital NONE
iPod None

Input Mode HDMI

Decode Mode Auto

Rename DVR

Other
Video Select DVR
Video Convert ON
Source Level (A) 0dB
Source Level (D) 0dB

I am loosing my mind right now, so before i throw the Denon out from a brigde please help me
