Default Should my HD playback suck?

I use SageTV and my setup involves the following:

Hauppauge HVR 1600
ATi HD2400 Pro
AMD 3200 AMD 64
2GB of RAM
Striped Drives @ 64KB Cluster
Windows XP

I have tried the Powerdvd and NV Purevideo decoders and have had slightly more success with the PowerDVD decoder.

My CPU is about 70-80% Load with HD vs. 5-8% with STD content.

I wasn't aware that NV Purevideo would even work with an ATI card?

There are some great prices on AMD64 4200 x2 (socket 939)cpu's right now if your mother board supports 'em. Slap in a new ATI HD3850 + a 4200 x2 for around $200 and enjoy!

Suck meaning ... it's using 70-80% of the CPU vs. 2-5% with standard videos...

I've used NV Purevideo, Cyberlinks PowerDVD, and the SageTV Encoder which supports DXVA.

I have also tried the ATi 2400/2600 registry tweaks.

Of course the NV Purevideo encoders work with ATI cards.

... I just bought this ATI card half way into last year so I am not really game to spend more $$$.

Your processor is light on power - and what programs do you have running in the background? Me old ATI 9800 XT card coupled with a AMD DC processor has no problem running and HD tossed it's way. Clean & scream your computer. Get rid of lumpy antivirus software - that shit don't work. Run Hijack and see what's slogging your system down.
