Default Hooking up my HDTV LCD using the VGA output and as a SECONDARY display.

Hey guys, this is my first post. You all seem very knowledgable.

I just bought a Sony 23" KLVS23A10 LCD . I want to use it only as a secondary display for my computer for viewing videos on. It only supports a VGA connection, no DVI.

I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2, along with an nVidia GeForce 6800GT. I have my computer LCD hooked up using DVI, and the TV hooked up with the VGA cable.

I have been trying to play some HD content. As of right now, when I play some WMV-HD (720p) my Sony display just turns black with some random white lines moving around. The same thing happens when I try to set the secondary display resolution as 1280x720. How can I fix this? The display works fine at 1280x768, but this doesn't allow me to play any HD content.

Please help me! I have tried everything, including Powerstrip.

I know my display is capable of 720p and 1080i (I have tried setting the resolution at 1920x1080 and I get a smushed picture but at least it works).

The display's native resolution is 1366x768. Please don't tell me I can't play HD content from my computer! HELP ME!!!

-Brian

P.S. - I have also tried setting the Sony display as the primary display, and it does not make any difference. Also, keep in mind that I am setting up my nVidia drivers to have all full screen video play on the secondary device (my Sony LCD).

According to the manual on page 52 you need to set the resolution to WXGA or 1280x768. It also recommends a refresh of 60Hz. Your media player should work with this resolution. What player are you using?

Yeah good call, I actually just figured that out. What I am doing is setting the resolution to 1360x768, this way it takes up the whole screen. Next, I disabled the clone mode and having full screen video on the secondary display. Instead, I enabled Dualview. All I have to do is drag my media player over to the right screen now (my Sony) and double-click to go full-screen.

The only thing I'm concerned about is whether or not this is true HD/progressive scan. The video using WMVHD looks really good, but I just want to make sure I am getting the most out of it.

It will be HD full screen. The 1280x720 will be scaled to 1280x768 and the 1920x1080 will also scale to 1280x768. As to whether you consider this true HD or not is really up to you, I suppose. The ATSC spec for HD is 1280x720 or 1920x1080 pixel resolution. Obviously some detail needs to be lost for 1080 line clips, but none for the 720 line clips. But then unless you are going to get a different display, it is what it is.
