Hello everyone!
I want to run HD tv on my laptop. I have always wanted to run tv on my pc or laptop but then this whole HD idea came into the picture and I said why not go all out and get the great HD picture. Well the zv6000 HP laptop has a High definition Widescreen display(16x9 ratio not 4x3 like most LCDS on laptops). Read more about it at hp here: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/sh...to_cto=PN494AV Well I want to know what I need to get HD tv to the laptop screen. I have no idea really where to start. I do not own a HD tv set yet but I figured since I was getting a HD widescreen monitor on my new laptop why not hook it up as a tv too. A 15in widescreen HD tv at walmart is like over 550.00! I also want to know is DIGITAL the same as HD? Isnt digial the 16x9 ratio too? Its the new thing right? I found this Cardbus Digital tv tuner card on ebay. Is that thing able to recieve the digital HDTV like the over the air type thats going to be happening in 2007? Thats why I wondered if Digital is the same as HD. Here it is what do you think?? http://cgi.ebay.com/Lifeview-DVBT-Du...QQcmdZViewItem And I found a USB tv tuner box that says its digital again. Which one is better if they both can recieve digital/HDTV? http://cgi.ebay.com/Sky-DVB-T-USB2-0...QQcmdZViewItem Thanks for any help!!

I am not sure about the Cardbus Digital tv tuner card
But the USB tv tuner box will work with HDTV BTW. HDTV digital signals are ATSC TV format Analog signals are in NTSC TV format |

No Digital & HDTV are NOT the same... Digital TV includes lower def image formats like 480i SDTV and 480p EDTV as well as HDTV. HDTV is a TYPE of digital TV.
Read you specs a bit closer... this is a 16:10 display, not 16:9. Still, with letterboxing, it will do a good job of showing 720p/60. Both of the products you link are for European version of digital SDTV... completely incompatible with US digital HDTV standards. DVB-T is their terrestrial broadcast standard, DVB-S (and S2) are for satellite, DVB-C is cable. A Korean company named Sasem was coming out with a USB interface HDTV tuner, but they've gone out of business. I don't know of any similar products, or any PCMCIA card digital tuner that would work with a notebook. You could transport HDTV over Firewire for display on this system, but it takes a lot of storage... Last edited by RSawdey; 09-13-2005 at 03:09 PM. |

I did find out about that being not compatible with the US. Its there digital tv like our HDTV...
What about getting a cable box and a hooking it up through a USB card or another input I can make a adapter for? Would that be possible? I always read that HDTV is 16:9 ratio...??

Yes, HDTV is 16:9 aspect... the laptop's display is NOT! It's 16:10.
The only way to transport HDTV from your STB to your laptop will be via Firewire. |
