Default sound goes off in games

I gotta a pc with a gtx260 connect via hdmi to my hdtv and everything works great, but when i start call of duty 4 up the sound goes off, even if i colse the game and reset the default device it wont come back, only solution is to restart pc then everyhting works fine again.
Is there any fix for this as i don't want to have to keep using the vga connection when i wanna play games.

thanks

Smile Nice Question

This is very interesting. What type of sound card are you using and what OS? I would say if you're using onboard sound, sometimes that can be an issue. Go into the BIOS and see if they're on. You can have conflicts with the onboard sound being on and having an independent sound card already in use. In addition, if you're using a PCI sound card, then check for the latest drivers from the manufacturers website and update them. You can also benefit from checking if you have the latest Direct X 9.0c as well. Go to start, run, and type in dxdiag and run the test for your sound card accuracy. After running the test, then see if the paragraph at the bottom of the result window says "your hardware is working properly." Get back to us and let us know what happens. I'm curious my darn self. Peace.
