Default wireless keyboard/mouse issue

Not sure exactly where my problem is- but I suspect it is a windows issue.

My HP mediacenter laptop with XP is connected to a Panny G10, and a MS wireless kb/mouse setup.

If I switch the Panny to the PC input, and fire up the laptop, all is well...but if I switch back to HDMI input for a bit of tv viewing, and then BACK to the PC input, wireless mouse and kb are non-responsive (the kb and touch pad on laptop are ok). It does not seem to matter if the laptop screensaver has kicked in or not. So far, I have not been able to re-activate the wireless kb/mouse without re-booting the laptop.

A different HP laptop with Vista, using the same wireless kb/mouse did not have this issue.

Any ideas on how to solve for this laptop?

Mahalo!
