The scooter concept is going to be a hard sell. Most people I know would prefer NOT to play Frogger with their own ass.

Okay, so it is practical for some of the people who live in small towns. I guess that translates to most people.

I'll speak from where I've lived. In Arizona, it wouldn't be practical for anybody as a daily driver. In California, it wouldn't be practical for anybody as a daily driver. In Pennsylvania(and I lived in a small town), it would be practical for a fraction of people, ones who worked at a restaraunt or gas station down the street.

I couldn't ride one of those things with a straight face. And what's up with all the haggard gear?

How do I fit my wife and 3 kids on that? Does it come with a side car? What about my Newfoundland?

I'll stick to my suburban tanks thanks. But if you added say a 1800cc V-twin.... Now you're talking.

Are you serious?

Who needs to speak for most people? A Scooter carries 1 person. Has limited room for much else.

Tell me - How many people want to take a Scooter on a 20 mile trip (one way) each day to work? How many want to do that same trip in the rain? Snow?

Fact is, the vast majority of people these days do not live near where they work and would not ride a scooter on a major highway (is that even legal??). For these people a scooter is not practical. So yeah, I'm pretty safe speaking for most in this case.

Same way I could say most people don't need to own a dump truck. Most people can't afford a $300k car.

Posting at this joint is a lost cause... too many RedNecks.
So because people won't or can't drive a scooter makes them rednecks?

So let's say you and 3 friends want to go some where. You all get on your scooters and take that 100 mile ride and only use 1 gallon of gas each!

I get in my Prius with 3 friends and we drive 100 miles too. Except all 3 of us use 1 gallon of gas and you and your 3 buddies use 3 gallons?

If all you go is short distances and only need to transport yourself, then the scooter is a great method of transportation. My wife could actually use it as she only drives 5 miles a day. But she really wouldn't feel comfortable driving it and often gets groceries and runs other errands during lunch.

So, like I said - For the vast majority, its not practical.

Post all you want about how great scooters are - I think many of us here find them interesting, but don't put down others because they see it has a limited market.

How much does one of those things cost anyway? And you don't need a motorcycle drivers license? Are they legal on all roads?

I hop in my 5 passenger SUV and drive 100 miles and use 6 gallons of gas. 6-5 (for 5 scooters each burning a gallon for 100 miles) = 1 gallon. I hop in my 8 passenger van filled with people and do the same thing using the same 6 gallons. But for scooters that takes 8. So 6-8=-2. I think I just saved money with my van.....

So you like extremes? On one end you drive a scooter and the other a full size SUV?? I'm assuming that's your's behind you as it has the retired coast guard sticker on it

No one has answered how I'm supposed to teach my 5 yr old to drive defensively on the highway.... I think my 8 yr old probably could.

That's all assuming you drive with that many passengers though If you only are driving by yourself much of the time, then its a different story. I'm USUALLY by myself in my car, so my car is averaging 45mpg factoring typical occupancy.

I know, I'm just being a pain. Cause it's fun. Actually, I'm the enemy. Big time. I drive a Cadillac Escalade EXT and it's usually just me except on weekends and then the kids want to ride in my car instead of mom's. LOL! but I really do have a Newfoundland too and she's HUGE! So she takes up 2 seats by herself.

Nice choice of SUV! If I was in the market and could afford a luxury SUV, my choice would be a Lincoln Navigator(OMG they are gorgeous!). However, those Caddilac SUV's look nice and fine too.

100mpg from a little scooter might be great. However, what is going to be awesome is the Chevy Volt, Prius plug-in, and Escape plug-in when they hit the market and might be able to run without ever burning a drop of petrol depending on how far you are driving. On top of that, they will give you all the safety of a typical car. Heck, even if one of those scooters run into you, it will be just a dent.
