I hope more of your fellow Chicago folks do this as you do, because that is the only way they are going to learn a lesson. Amazing how petrol prices literally jump 30-50 cents just by crossing the border there.

I finally had to fill up again today. Petrol is still hovering around $3.89 a gallon, but E85 was down to $3.15 a gallon which was awesome for me. I noticed a few petrol stations were starting to drop prices this evening as I was driving home. A couple of stations that were at $3.89 this morning I noticed were at $3.75 on my way home.

While that 3.8 wasn't exactly the most advanced engine for 1996, you have to understand it was still a decent engine. It produces torque in the rpm range that matters the most, which makes it very suitable for daily driving. I bet the torque band on that engine makes your Mustang pretty suitable for California style traffic where peak horsepower means nothing in your attempt to jockey for position on the highways during rush hour. In that regard, you'd dust any Honda from that era as peak horsepower only means something when you have a long enough stretch of road for it to mean something. Hold On Not Done Accelerating! BTW, Honda has and still mostly uses SOHC designs for anything but their hardcore performance cars. Of course, you will have 2 cams instead of 4 unlike the DOHC engines that others use.



Exxon paid a lot of taxes if i'm not mistaken, but you'll have to refresh my memory as I havn't kept up with oil company news since 2008. Just remember that oil is a fixed commodity and if Exxon wants to commit suicide at some point down the road by not staying relevant, that is their problem. Just look at what happens to businesses like Blockbuster, Borders, and others who don't stay relevant and meet disaster. At some point, Exxon, BP, Royal Dutch Shell, and so on will meet the same fate if they continue to rely on nothing but something with a fixed quantity inside the earth. Economics can be a total mistress.

Exxon paid a lot of taxes,,,a bit over $15 billion in 2009,,,just not to the US gov. Matter of fact,,,2009,,,Exxon received about a $46 million credit from us good 'ol Americans. Kind of brings new meaning to the term 'Drill baby Drill'. Good thing they be in the "lube" biznezz.

I never understood why fuel costs so much more in Canada. I usually make a trip from Windsor to Toronto once every couple years, and I don't ever remember the spread in price from US to Canada being this big. The problem with your motorcycle, is that you'll soon need to pick the bugs from your teeth after each ride.

My guess is that it is a great source of revenue for the gov and is taxed in part to support our health care. Don't quote me on that though. I wear a full face helmut so no bugs in my teeth.

When I fill up in Indy, I notice that most of the license plates are from illinois...so I am not the only one People in chi also go to indy for cigs, since the taxes are not nearly as high and they buy them by the carton. The gas stations in chi are normally pretty full. I think what ppl are doing is only putting a couple of gallons in car due to the high price. BTW I noticed gas is at $4.35.

Regarding the high price in canada, I guess thats what happens when you get free health care and education. But that still does seem high since canada has oil sands

In the instances when I am in Chi-town and am running very low on fumes, that is exactly what I do as I will just put in a few gallons so that I can make it back across the border into Indiana. Normally I don't need to fill up at all, but there were times when i'd get stuck in a traffic jam from hell on the Dan Ryan and run more fuel than I predicted. I seriously have to find a new route as I don't know why I keep using that stretch of highway when I know it will always be that way.

Hawaii pays more for just about everything, as their electric rates are as high as 30 cents/KWH. By comparison, my rates are 14 cents and the national average is around 12 cents. Alaska makes sense, but what doesn't make sense is why in the hell fuel should be that expensive in the other states here in the continuous 48.

Are you sure you arn't thinking about England? They recently had some riots due to the price of education being raised. Previously, it was practically free or really cheap.
