Speedometer top speed does not equal actual top speed.

Most cars typically have the limiter set at the speed rating the manufacturer limits the stock tires to, not how high the speedo goes.

A 03-04 SVT Mustang is speed limited to 155mph (unless the limiter is turned off )

140 mph in a second generation mazda rx 7 not sure of the exact year, but it was early 90's. 160 hp 1.3 L rotary engine with a turbo and no red line. The speedo went up to 160, and there is not doubt in my mind that that car could have done that easy, but I got scared.

When I had my '98 Pontiac Trans Am, I managed to break 130... I admit, I was racing a Mustang... '04 Mustang GT. Poor guy never stood a chance Now that I have a Cobalt... I can't even get past 100 Haha maybe one day I will break that!
