Was it off a cliff or at least a steep hill?

haha, Geo Metro. At least they are good on gas. I've never pushed any of my cars. I think I drove a rental Impala maybe 115 mph. My brother has done 150 on his 2000 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R

About 120 on my 92 GSX750F Katana (still have it)
About 135 in my 1970 Buick (fake) GS455 Skylark Convertible (wish I still had it). I can still remember every piece I put in that engine!

What types of cars are electronically speed limited? My 2010 accord's speedometer lists its top speed at 160mph.

Speedometers are for cosmetic purposes only as they are no indication of a vehicle's top speed, and are often extremely unreliable at speeds over 80mph. This is because by federal law, speedometers are only required to be accurate within 10% of the actual speed unless this has changed from a decade ago. Now if a cop in a Police Interceptor Crown Vic stops you by following you, that excuse won't work as those cop cars come with special police calibrated speedometers that are dead accurate.

Some vehicles are speed limited for safety reasons, and in fact the majority of vehicles on the market fall into this category. Others are drag(aerodynamically) speed limited. My previous vehicle was a Chevy Trailblazer SS which was speed limited at 135mph(I bounced of it twice), although actual top speed is higher than that for a decently modded vehicle like mine was.

OK, so how do I find out the top speed without being put in jail? Is there a web site with this info? Is there a site that lists the cars that are speed limited?

You might be able to go check on a the reviews at a few car magazines such as www.caranddriver.com or www.motortrend.com or www.automobilemag.com or www.roadandtrack.com as they often have those stats at the end of the review in table form.

However, after the tragic death of a auto journalist during a top speed test of a vehicle a while ago, car magazines don't really seem to focus on vehicle top speed as much as they used to.

You might also be able to go on a few Honda forums on the internet to see what people have to say. Honda generally has a very loyal following among the kiddie population, and many of them know these type of stats off the top of their head, or have physically tested the limit themselves.

You'll find in many cases that cars are speed limited to match the tire speed rating.

A 03-04 SVT Mustang is speed limited to 155mph (unless the limiter is turned off )
