1969 Pontiac GTO Judge, 400/366 HP, 4-Speed, Factory Air

Quote:
One of a mere 47 Judges produced with factory air conditioning, it has been professionally restored to immaculate condition with a laser straight mirror finish in correct Carousel Red, Black bucket seat interior and spotless undercarriage. In addition to its WS-code Ram Air III 400/366 HP engine, Hurst-shifted Muncie M21 4-speed and 3.91 Positraction rear end - all original and matching-numbers - it is equipped with hide-away headlights, power steering, working hood-mounted tach and Rally II wheels with Firestone Wide Oval tires.
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=FL0113-143400

Pontiac built 6,438 Ram Air III Judges in 1969. Only the RA III could be had with A/C.

So if a 1969 Judge with A/C is extremely rare - just how rare is a 1969 Judge CONVERTIBLE with A/C?

http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=FL0111-103166

Came across an interesting statistic:

Quote:
One of 108 Judge convertibles. All but 17 were Carousel Red.
Of the 108 1969 Judge Convertibles, 5 of them had the RA IV engine option. Do you think of the remaining 103, there were 5 with factory A/C?

1968 Mustang California Special

http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=AN1112-138933

You could have bought the 15x7 Shelby 10 Spoke Aluminum Wheels from your selling dealer in 1968. But they were expensive - about $180. I suspect these were added after the fact.

1970 GTO/Judge Option 634: Rear Lamp Monitoring System ($26.33)

A very rare option which used fiber optics from the rear bulbs into the small box located on the rear interior tray. If a bulb went out, so would the light in the box. It was only available on early production cars as the option was cancelled shortly after introduction.

1970 Polar White Judge w/ Option WT7 (1 of 51)

Option WT7, a no charge option, was only available on the Polar White Judge. Instead of the rear air foil being painted body color, it was painted Satin Black like the hood scoops.

It is interesting to note that option WT7 was cancelled early in the 1970 model year but was then reinstated for 1971 with 15 Cameo Ivory Judges having option WT7

1970 455 HO Judge Hardtop (1 of 14)

Though the new 455 HO 360 hp engine option was available in the GTO since the beginning of the model year, it only became available in the Judge in the later part of 1970, sometime between February and April. That is why so few 1970 Judges have this engine in them. Plus it had 6 less hp than the standard RA III engine (366 hp). 14 Hardtops and 3 Convertibles were made. All 17 had an Auto Trans.

There was no special badging for the 1970 455 HO Judge (AFAIK)

1970 GTO Code W73/Option Order Code 611 - Vacuum Operated Exhaust (VOE)

+ YouTube Video

Quote:
A new and short-lived option for 1970 was the Vacuum Operated Exhaust (VOE), which was vacuum actuated via an underdash lever marked "EXHAUST." The VOE was designed to reduce exhaust backpressure to increase power and performance, but it also substantially increased exhaust noise. The VOE option was offered from November 1969 to January 1970. Pontiac management was ordered to cancel the VOE option by GM's upper management following a TV commercial for the GTO that aired during Super Bowl IV on CBS January 11, 1970. In that commercial, entitled "The Humbler," which was broadcast only that one time, a young man pulled up in a new GTO to a drive-in restaurant with dramatic music and exhaust noise in the background, pulling the "EXHAUST" knob to activate the VOE and then left the drive-in to do some street racing. That particular commercial was also cancelled by order of GM management. Approximately 233 1970 GTOs were factory built with this rare option including 212 hardtop coupes and 21 convertbiles, all were "YS" 400ci 350 hp/with either four-speed manual or Turbo Hydra-matic transmissions. This particular GTO in the commercial was Palladium Silver with a Black bucket interior. It was unusual in several respects as it also had the under-dash "RAM AIR" knob just to the right of the VOE knob, and it sported '69 JUDGE stripes, as a few very-early '70 GTOs could be ordered with. It also had a Turbo Hydra-matic transmission, remote mirror, Rally II wheels, A/C, Hood Tach, and a new-for-1970 Formula steering wheel.
Quote:
When this car was advertised during the 1970 Super Bowl, G.M. execs blew a gasket, and E.P.A. police said "no way" to a car that basically eliminated the mufflers and promoted drag racing. The order was sent to stop production of the option and most people, including some notable Pontiac enthusiast, believed that no cars were ever produced. But in fact 233 or so cars made it out the door before the axe fell. In speaking to Tom Hand, who resurrected the idea and was instrumental along with Waldron's Antique Exhaust in the production of new VOE mufflers, told me there are about 20 cars known to still exist. This is listed as the rarest G.T.O. option ever. This car pushed the limits even by wild 1970 standards.

1970 Pontiac GTO "The Humbler" 1:18 scale by GMP

Quote:
This fine example of the super-rare 1970 Pontiac VOE GTO, AKA "The Humbler", with factory vacuum operated exhaust was delivered to Andy Klein Pontiac in Overland Park, KS on May 5th, 1970. Dressed in striking Atoll Blue paint with exclusive VOE striping and Pontiac Rally II wheels this special Goat looks simply brilliant. Power comes from the correct YS coded 400 engine mated to a Turbo 400 transmission. This car runs and drives great and one pull of the knob which operates the VOE will surely put a grin on your face. This well-optioned car is also equipped with power steering, power disc brakes and air conditioning. Out of the 233 VOE GTOs built, a scant 35 units were automatics with air, making this an extremely rare car and a perfect addition to any serious GTO collection.

Here is another 1970 GTO with VOE. It too has the 1969 Judge Stripes. It appears that part of the 611/W73 option were the stripes.

On the factory invoice, Pontiac called it; DR CONT EXH (Driver Controlled Exhaust) - $63.19 (Code 611)

Here is the option list from a 1970 GTO with option W73 that was built in Canada (so it has rock solid documentation). Notice it includes D98 Accent Stripe ( Tape ) which would be the 1969 Judge Stripe:

AK1 Deluxe seat belts and shoulder harness

AO2 Glass - Tinted windshield

A39 Frt & RR Seat belts - Deluxe

A85 Frt Seat Shldr Harness Deluxe

D33 Outside Rear View Mirror - LH - Remote Control

D55 Frt Compartment Floor Console

D98 Accent Stripe ( Tape )

G80 Rear Axle - Positraction

H02 Rear Axle - 3.55 Posi

JL2 Disc Brakes - Front Single Piston

J50 Vacuum Power Brakes

M40 3-Speed Automatic Transmission ( THM 400)

The devils in the details . . .

No 1969 Charger Daytona could have come from the factory with the 15" W23 "recall wheels." The option was discontinued in September 1968. The Daytona made it's appearance in showrooms on April 13, 1969.

1967 Hemi GTX with Headrests

http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...n=1057&aid=443

The fact that it's a Hemi makes it rare but also having both L & R headrests makes it all that much more rare. Headrests were not a popular option. For the GTX it was a $41.90 option. That doesn't sound like much today but back in 1967, it was the same cost as Power Brakes - $41.75.

In 1969, the production Boss 302 used black stripes:

While the race car versions used white stripes:

1972 455 Stage 1 Buick GSX

In 1972, the GSX package was available on the Hardtop with 3 different engine options:

350-4V
455-4V
455 Stage 1

Powertrain wise, 24 of the 44 had the 455 Stage 1 engine, 4 had the base 455, and 16 were equipped with the 350. Forty of the forty four were automatics, so the four speed is extremely rare- only two Stage 1's, one base 455, and one 350 are so equipped.

The GSX option package wasn't even mentioned in the original 1972 sales brochure.

Available for the first time (black, white, beige and brown) on the GSX was the vinyl roof:

One of the two '72 GSX 455 Stage 1 with a 4 Speed cars is red. It will look like this one (without A/C):
