I can't believe any car company would waste their time and money working on this.

Let's get going on the hover conversion kits !!

VW is a bit late on the scene as many of Fords vehicles have already been self parallel parking for a year or two now. Lexus started the trend on the LS series, but it was deemed too slow and too faulty as the camera based system didn't work as well as Lexus advertised it.

Ford now offers what they call active park assist, and you don't need to shell out for a $90k car to buy it. I believe it is currently a stand alone option on nearly every Lincoln vehicle, and also on the Ford Flex, Taurus, and Escape. It is supposed to be superior as it works faster, and is much more accurate than the Lexus setup since it is based on sonar.

To be honest, I am very happy that this parallel parking thing is becoming popular. I am always afraid to parallel park my vehicle because i'm always worried some SOB who can't park worth a damn is gonna try to park in front of, or behind me and screw up my bumper like the kids did when I was in high school.
