Default What's Up With Shaw Cable?

Apparently, Shaw was ordered to drop the omnibus channel (301 in the Vancouver area) on a complaint from CTV that they were violating CRTC rules.
In their wisdom, Shaw has 301 now carrying Sportsnet although earlier in the day, the message on the 301 screen said that it would be broadcasting Fox HD on that channel!
I think Shaw goes out of their way to piss people off! They should have let the subscribers vote on which HD programmes/network they would like to replace the omnibus channel.
If Telus would start offering Hi-Def, with more channels at a competitive price, I would drop Shaw like a hot rock!

I got the following from the Digital Home Canada Forums -

On Shaw's website,
Winnipeg shows (must be typo):
HDTV 301 Sportsnet HD
HDTV 302 WWJ - CBS Detroit
HDTV 303 Movie Central HD
HDTV 304 Sportsnet HD
HDTV 305 KGFE - PBS Grand Forks

Saskatoon:
HDTV 301 Sportsnet HD
HDTV 302 Movie Central HD
HDTV 303 KOMO - ABC Seattle
HDTV 304 KIRO - CBS Seattle
HDTV 305 KING - NBC Seattle
HDTV 306 KSPS - PBS Spokane

Edmonton:
HDTV 301 Sportsnet HD
HDTV 302 Movie Central HD
HDTV 303 KOMO - ABC Seattle
HDTV 304 KIRO - CBS Seattle
HDTV 305 KING - NBC Seattle
HDTV 306 KSPS - PBS Spokane

Brooks, AB & Kamloops:
HDTV 301 WJBK - Fox Detroit
HDTV 302 WWJ - CBS Detroit
HDTV 303 Movie Central HD
HDTV 304 Sportsnet HD

Vancouver:
HDTV 301 Sportsnet HD
HDTV 302 Movie Central HD
HDTV 303 KOMO - ABC Seattle
HDTV 304 KIRO - CBS Seattle
HDTV 305 KING - NBC Seattle
HDTV 306 KSPS - PBS Spokane

So if you had 6 HDTV channels before, you got Sportsnet on 301. If you had 2 omnibus channels you get MCHD, RSNHD and FOX & CBS Detroit.

My comments to this -

According to the above only Kamloops and Brooks AB get FOX. Personally I am quite happy with the choice for Vancouver ... I would much rather have Sportsnet HD than FOX. Of course I would love to see more HD channels!

I spoke to a tech at Shaw earlier in the week. He said that Shaw is definitely interested in adding more HD channels, (quote) "because it is now the standard"!

Default Re: Sportsnet

Thanks for the HD schedule. Every time I turn to 301, there seems to be very little actual sports going on. Instead they show a bunch of sports commentators and ex-jocks talking about sports or they are broadcasting a show called "Sportsnet News."
I once saw a show about poker but that didn't hold my interest for very long (about 10 seconds). I guess not having the Stanley Cup Playoffs leaves a big void in their schedule and that's something I would really watch.
