Default HD receiver activation problems

I am trying to add an additional 6141 hd receiver to my Bell acct. Since Bell would not give me-- an existing user-- the same deal they offer new customers (50% off) on the purchase of the 6141, I bought one on ebay.

The unit arrived and is in working order but the previous owner has not removed it from his account, thus Bell will not activate it nor will they tell me the name of the account the receiver is on.

I have emailed the ebay seller, an electronics outfit in Quebec to ask them to contact the previous owner or send me a name and address so I can do it.

Has anyone ever encountered similiar problems and if so how did you get it resolved.

Thank you

thats nothing, i bought a new vip722, called dish and activated it then a month later they told me i was leasing it from them. it was brand new and sold from a guy that had sold 50 or more. after a month and a half they finally got it straighten out. i was able to use it for that time, and still do, but what i had to go through to get them to fix a problem they made was crazy, hell i had to fax them a receipt for the unit. ebay is pretty good about protecting the buyers so you shouldnt have any trouble getting it straightened out. it will just take time.

The previous owner must deactivate it himself.

Default Rogers Explorer 4250 HD Box

I have a Rogers Explorer 4250 HD Box. I got it on a 12 month free deal when I bought a Sharp 46 inch HD TV. My question is do I purchase one when the year is over or rent? Do these boxes ever break down?

Same question for the Rogers HD PVR.
Thanks

I'd make the presumption that you own the box and pay for the subscription to their services, these boxes are useless unless you have them activated. I picked one up out of someone's trash complete with remote, but without activation they're dead.

Default Bell activation problem

Just a final note to advise, I was able to resolve the problem. I contacted the ebay seller who sold me the receiver that was on an active account and after a few unkind words, they allowed me to return it for a refund. Something to think about if anyone is buying via ebay, insure the unit is ready to be added to your account.

I then took one more crack at Bell and indicated how angry I was and that I was ready to chuck all my Bell stuff and I was then transferred to--and I love this title--THE MANAGER OF THE CUSTOMER RETENTION TEAM.

After more discussion concerning Bell treating new customers but not giving a damn about long time customers, I was offered and accepted the purchase of a new 6141 at the 50% discount--it was delivered, I plugged it in, activated it and total problem solved.

The moral of the story is if you have a problem with Bell, don't take the word of the CS rep, insist on going higher and you may be pleased with the result!!

Since they have created a "Customer retention team" one can assume that they are receiving a considerable number of complaints about their service.
