Is there any way to pull shows off the External HD ??

Without going throught the receiver? No, its encrypted.

YES, you can pull them off.

If you run Linux, it is easy to just pull the files off the EHD. They will not be watchable due to encryption, but getting them off is easy. You will of course have to put them back on the drive as and when you want to view them.
