I posted this in another forum, and people seem to think it's not my TV, that's it's a problem with Videotron. I'll paste in what I said over there:
+++++++++++ Sharp Aquos, 46" 46D92U, LCD, 1080p. HD STB from Scientific Atlanta. Signal from Videotron (Canada). The set is about 10 months old. Works great, looks great, except for two hot pixels that only show up on the National Geographic channel (HD). I've never before heard of a hot pixel problem that was specific to one channel. In this case it's two pixels that flicker white when the background is black. Otherwise I don't see them. If I look close, it seems to be more than one pixel per spot, as if it's not a problem with the TV, but is actually a hot point in the broadcast. But it shows up on pretty much all shows -- but ONLY on National Geographic! ++++++++++++++ Any other Videotron users (Montreal) seeing this phenomenon on National Geographic HD? |

I guess it's pretty annoying, but nothing we can help you with; other than to state the obvious. The way you describe the problem, it's likely to be on the broadcast side, but certainly could be injected locally at your hardware.. Considering that it only effects one channel and only sometimes, gives me the impression that the positioning of that channels frame might have something to do with it. There is some sort of signal sent to warn local broadcasters of an upcoming commercial break, which might resemble your flashing dots, this should be out of frame.. but if the frame isn't centered you might see it. Genlocking equipment for station ID might also be responsible. Anything frame specific source could be the culprit (e.g. not your refrigerator) from the org source to your panel.
I'll bet it clears as broadcasters get a bit more familiar with the HD equipment. |

Well, I really doubt that it's the thing to warn of upcoming commercials or whatever. It's almost dead-center, and it's really small, barely more than a single pixel. I only see it when that part of the screen is really dark, almost black.
On the other hand, I am pretty convinced is is a broadcaster problem, as it only shows up on that channel. But I don't know enough about this stuff to really know how all that works, and if such a thing is even possible. My main reason for posting this here was to see if any other Videotron users saw the same thing. |

I have Videotron HD and a HD PVR box (8300 HD). I experience the same thing on this channel as well. Most likely a broadcast issue.
