How to make SD content into full 1080p via Bell ExpressVu.
Not sure if anybody is aware of this, but here it is anyway. Simple trick I devised to get my Standard Definition Bell ExpressVu service up-converted to full 1080p for free and it works great. - Get a Toshiba, LG, Samsung or Panasonic 1080p Up-Converting DVD Recorder/Player with HDMI out. - Connect the Audio and Video "OUT" from the Bell ExpressVu box into the Audio/Video "IN" off your DVD recorder. Preferably try to use minimum S-Video or if a player offers the better Component Video. The audio can be analog or digital which ever is supported. - Next connect the HDMI "OUT" from the DVD recorder to the HDTV's HDMI "IN" connection. - If you want sound via your Digital Receiver, then connect an optical or coaxial digital cable from the DVD Recorder to the Digital Receiver to get the full 5.1+ audio. - Then make sure you set your DVD Recorder to 1080p for up-converting. The Bell box will have to go through the DVD Recorder, which will auto up-convert the picture to 1080p then spit it out onto your HDTV ![]() With my experiments I found that the 1080p up-converted PQ was much better when connected directly to an HDTV vs. a Digital Receiver. For some reason when connected to the Digital Receiver the picture looks a little stretched and it was noticeable but when connected directly to the HDTV, the picture looks much less stretched, just a tad stretched which you couldn't even notice.

Hello Everyone, I'm Happy I found this forum!
I spent all my saving 2 days ago and bought these two items 1. LG 42 inch HDTV Model : 42LG50 2. LG DVD HOME THEATRE SYSTEM with WIRELESS KIT Model: HT762TZW The audio system includes a DVD LG 1080p Up-Converting DVD Recorder, and I connected the wires exactly as you explained above. My service provider is Bell Express Vu, they have not yet installed the HD cable box yet, I'm trying to up convert my standard Bell Express Vu channels to 1080p via the DVD Recorder. I have set input connection to the TV for HDMI in, and went to Aux on the DVD recorder . I can hear the audio but no signal on the video. Please help me. |

I think I figured out why this is not working out for you. For some reason this DVD recorder doesn't seem to have Video "IN". And I am not sure if the "Monitor" is Video "IN" or "OUT". I think Monitor is the plain old Composite Video or some sort of Digital Video.
In order for the DVD player to up-Scale the Bell Express Vu image to 1080p, you will have to connect video “OUT” off your BEL Express Vu and run that into a Video "IN" on your DVD player. I don't think you have a Video "IN" on this DVD player. Currently you have Component Video "OUT", HDMI "OUT" & Monitor “OUT”. Unless this Monitor "OUT" is really Monitor "IN". You will have to try and see what happends. Try connecting a Digital Coaxial Cable into your "Monitor" connector, then connect the HDMI “OUT” to your HDMI “IN” off your HDTV and see if you get a picture. Thanks alot for the help, i did some re-search and your right, that "monitor" plug is video out.
Bell Finally Upgraded me to HD package, so i'm finally experiencing the beauty of 1080p, my eyes are in heaven when watching the Toronto Raptors on TSN HD, wow LOL. On the downside the SD content is still SD, but i guess i can live with that. I bought the HDTV the audio system and a free xbox 360 from bestbuy for $1200 plus tax, so i think the system i have for the price is ok. |
