Default ExpressVu 9100 HD/PVR

Has anybody heard when the 9100 HD/PVR will be released? I've heard it was suppose to have been end of July - early August.

Don't know where you go that info...

I heard that it is coming out in September/October for $1500 Canadian.

But I have heard rumors that you can buy it for $1000 Canadian if you get a 2 year membership.

I believe it's the Dish DVR 921:
http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/p...hd/index.shtml

Last March, ExpressVu told me that's the model they will have. And, at the time, they did talk about July availability but no mention at their site yet.

In April, I switched to cable and got the SA8000HD DVR and very thankful I did.

The BELL expressvu HD/PVR has been cancelled for 2004. Expect to see the receiver arrive FALL 2005. The reason for the cancellation is not confirmed, but rumor has it the 921 (HDPVR it is based on) was too buggy.

That sucks. I was planning to buy it in the Fall of 2005 for a discounted price. Now, I obviously won't be able to do that, because it will be brand new and not old. I hope they sell it for a really low price.

I expect it to be $1000cdn when it is released in FALL 2005. The main reason is because the HDPVR from shaw will be old by then, and quite possibly, the dct6400 which has existed for sometime now (120GB dual tuner HDPVR) may be out by fall 2005 so bell can't price theirs too high (even though it has much larger capacity at 250gb).

Time will tell!

Angry 9100 fact or fiction for Bell ExpressVu

It certainly won't be heard from Bell the last in the industry to have an HD PVR and they won't even talk about it??? They keep there customer service in the dark as well as there Customers. This said it was reported and reviewed in Marketnews (here's How) magazine available free at A&B sound ect............. I even sent it to Bell Employees with no response, shows the mentallity of the bunch.................so the people paying their salaries (subscribers) are kept in the dark..........soon they will find out how costly that can be when they p...... off the Canadian public and they move to something else or better yet over the air free HD in your markets.....

I just came back from a local technology blowout sale where the regional representatives for Bell, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba etc... where all there.

I was lucky enough to talk to a Bell ExpressVu Representative and this is what he said:

"The Bell ExpressVu HD/PVR rumored as the 9100 (based on the EchoStar 921 HD PVR) has been cancelled for the following reasons:
1. To buggy
2. Can only get 1000 unites for all of Canada, which isn't enough!!!

But... The successor to the EchoStar 921 HD PVR will be available in Canada on Feb/Mar 2005 at an estimated retail price of $799.99 (Canadian). The Model number is still unknown and this information is subject to change, but it should still have similar specs to the 921 with all the major flaws fixed in a smaller form factor. There might also be a few extras too."

The 9100 that BEV was to originally to come out with is supposedly being replaced by the E* 942 a crippled HD-PVR. By crippled I mean that tuner1 will record HD, while tuner2 will downconvert HD to SD.

With that being said you definately will not see the crappy 942 next year as E* has apparently stated the 942 is delayed until Q1 next year, meaning you definately won't see it in Canada for some time next year (in one of my calls with a BEV rep, it was late next year). People talk about bugs, well if you think the 942 is going to come out without problems you most likely are in for a surprise!

I think that BEV should bring out the 921 (9100), the stability of the product has improved immensely and there are a couple updates coming that are supposed to fix other issues (OTA). The supply problem with the 921 has apparently been cleared up and BEV in my opinion can/should bring the 921 out. I think BEV/E* should settle down on bringing out all these different models, get a good featured product out, get it working properly and have a good, sold stable of products.

Lightbulb Suggestion to improve the design of 9100/921.

After reviewing the link provided by mfabien, on the DVR 921,

http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/.../hd/index.shtml

I have two suggestions:

1) Improve the remote control. I have a TV, satellite dish, VCR, Home Theatre, and a DVD player. I probably won't use my VCR much more with the DVR/PVR capabilities. I suggest that ether add a DVD mode button or replace the VCR button with a DVD button. Also, add remote learning capabilities, additional memory to store needed functions and provide macro programming. I have a wack of remote controls. I have tried using the universal remotes, but find that they can't perform all the functions and or lack sufficient memory to learn the functions that I need. So far, I have purchased three universal remotes that have not been totally successful. Also the universal remotes are not UHF, therefore, I loose that function if I have to use a universal remote.

2) Display the channel number (and perhaps the name of the user defined favorites list) on the front of the satellite receiver. Sometimes I wish to play music from Galaxie, and in order to select the channel, I have to turn on the TV, (which is added wear to the RPTV), select the TV list I want, then select the channel. I would rather just turn on the satellite receiver, select the channel number, and visually confirm that I am on the correct channel.
