Default DVD Recorder/Shaw Not Getting All Channels

I am a complete technophobe, but got a cheap DVD Recorder in order to record some olympics on Channel 96 (shaw digital cable). I did a quick test and recorded some random programming on channel 15. When I tried to set up to record on channel 96, it won't recognize the channel. I did the auto channel set up and all it shows when it gets to that channel is black. I tried manual set up and the same thing. It seems weird that I can record up to channel 58, then 70, then 106 and up. Does anyone know of any special problem with Shaw digital cable and dvd recorders?
