Hey for all you fello Canucks
, do any of you subscribe to Bell express view as well as their phone and internet service ? I'm inquiring about their service because I've had hi-speed cable for years, but most of those years I was in Calgary and the service was provided by "Rogers" and was great. However, I now live in the rural part of southern Ab. foothills and hence I am getting service from a local "cable club", but the service is rather "spotty". I mean in inclimate weather (which is the norm.) the service for both cable tv and internet drops out for hours or more at a time. Even on very windy days (which is also quite common here) we go without service frequently. I can't go back to phone line service...no way in hell ! In your experience, is this (drop-outs) a problem with satellite service, and what should I expect ? Any help is appreciated, thanks all peace macmarkus

I'm not in that area ....I'm in Ontario, but I see no reason why you should have those kind of problems. The TV sat reception should be good virtually all the time with the possible exception of VERY heavy rain. It would seem that one or perhaps both of the following are happening. Either the dish is pointing through a tree and the branches are getting in the way and causing signal loss, or the dish is not correctly pointed at Nimiq1 and 2 (the sats for Bell Express Vu). This might give you a very week signal that is watchable under good weather conditions, but is not good at other times.
As for the internet and phone, they shouldn't have anything to do with these problems. The DSL internet is supplied via the phone line, both of which have nothing to do with the TV. Other than a loss of phone line (tree falling on the line etc), nothing should cause this to cut in and out. Certainly you should complain to Bell...you are paying enough for the service and you should get it!!! As an alternative, you should be able to get internet from other providers cheaper if Bell can give you service. Let me know if you want to know more. Sorry I can't offer anything more helpful! ExpressVu, like any satellite service, is affected by wet. So heavy rain, snow, etc., causes you to lose signal. Usually not for long, but it goes. It doesn't have to be raining where you are, but just where the dish is 'looking'
Bell doesn't offer highspeed internet by satellite. I have high speed via Direcway, and is is expensive, unreliable, and slow. Reliability seems much less than TV (more easily affected by weather), and you never see the promised speeds. If you download anything (lets say a decent sized PDF file) they throttle you back to telephone speed. Supposed to get wireless internet to the farm by sumer - I can't wait. |
