Default Motorola DCT2224 Digital Converter - Any HD output?

We have a Motorola DCT2224-1661-ACDeck digital cable converter installed. We are thinking of purchasing an LCD TV, but would rather not pay the extra monthly charges for an HDTV converter, and the HD channels.
I know that if I buy an HDTV with an integrated HD tuner, I can receive free air HD broadcasting, whenever it occurs. However, we are in a rural area of Nova Scotia, and free air channels are few and far between.
My question is: "Does the Motorola DCT2224 converter output HD programs broadcast on non-HD channels, as you would get them on an antenna?" Or, does it downgrade all programming to "Regular" definition? If it does output HD, then we would get some HD programming without going the route of getting an HD box and conversion.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Bill.

Well, I finally got the info from Motorola. It took a while, and I had given up on them, however, they did come through. For anyone that would like to know, the Motorola Digital Cable boxes will not interfere with the High Def transmitted programming. So, with no change to our present service, we can get HDTV whenever it's broadcast, which is more and more as time goes on. That is assuming that you have an HDTV with an integrated tuner.

Maybe it won't "interfere" but don't mis-interpret the meaning. I have a 2224 and it does not decode HD channels. I have a 2224 and just upgraded my service ($6.50 a month more) and they sent out a different model box. I kept the 2224 to use as a 2nd cable box. After activation, the old one still worked the same as it always has. It bugs me that the RF bypass when set to 'on' doesn't really bypass the box. When I plug the cable straight into my new 1080p tv, I get way different channels than with the box.
