Default Shaw Cable HD receiver

According to Shaw, I need to purchase a $500 Motorola HD Receiver from them or FutureShop. I purchased a Samsung HD receiver in the states for $150 but they couldnt enter the serial number into their system and told me I needed to buy one from BestBuy,FutureShop or from them for $500.

Is this a scam or do I need to use specific receiver that is compatible with shaw? Aren't all HD Recievers basically the same thing?

Thx in advance.

Default Yep-plus a $2 a month fee for using it.

Hey, they want that 2 bucks a month as well. I got my HD receiver from them for $440 without the PVR capability. For every Digital and HD terminal in your house you will pay a toonie a piece to them. In Canada, I would be very suprised if Bell or Star Choice or Rogers will be any different. This is not the (land of the free, and the home of the brave) that`s south of the border.

Default I believe the answer is NO

When you bring the receiver home and hook it up you must phone shaw to have it activated. I`m betting that if they don`t recognize the receiver as one of theirs, they will "not" activate it for you.

Why don`t you just call them and see what they say?
