Hi
My existing set up is as follows :- 1 dish 2 LNB 4 cables going into 2 x SW21 switches(1 cable from LNB1 and 1 cable from LNB2 going to each SW21) 2 cables (1 from each SW21 going to each receiver) I wanted to add another couple of receivers so I bought 2 x Eagle Aspen multiswitches, 3 in 4 out with power supply. So my set up now is:- 1 dish 2 LNB 4 cables going into 2 x Eagle Aspen multiswitches(1 cable from LNB 1 and 1 cable from LNB 2 going into each multiswitch) 2 cables (1 from each multiswitch) going into SW21 1 cable to the receiver As soon as I add the multiswitch I lose a few of my HD channels as well as a few regular channels. For instance I can view DiscoveryHD no problem at all until I add this multiswitch but then I turn to that channel and it's not there. The channel listing shows but there isn't any sound or picture. Bugging me for a few days now. Other than that the equipment seems to be working fine. When I revert back to the original set-up I have no problems at all. Cheers Beanie |

Running the diagnostic?
That has to be run to configure the switched correctly, a detail they don't exactly highlight in their install manuals. |

Yeah
Its been a while since I did my install, I ran the self test then made some changes. Then I got weirdness which I just couldn't figure out until the customer service person pretty much insisted I run the self test. Even though the self test didn't find anything, from then on it worked OK, and this has fixed a few problems people have had with multi LNB installs. The self test seems to do something to the switch or the box or both and brings them into sync (or spiritual harmony or something). |

OK well I tried to run diagnostics but there wasn't anything to run. I don't have it hooked up to a telephone so does that matter? Am I doing something wrong? Sorry for being vague but I'm in work at the mo. I'll post the model of receiver when I get home.

It's a Bell 6100. I still don't see any self test menu. The diagnostics menu only has the options :-
Connection Dial Out Teach Remote Help Cancel Cheers Beanie |

Well I don't know the model numbers. I have an HD PVR.
It is in the installation menu, if memory serves. |

It is in the install menue item #6 in the menue on the reciever. Then it is under pointing dish it is at the bottom of the screen or the side at the left can't remember off hand it is labeled check switch. Click in that and it will run teh tests for you.

OK thanks man. When I run check switch it finds the SW21 switches no problem. When I change my configuration to add the multiswitches it finds the SW21 switches no problem. The thing is I still lose some of my channels. The equipment appears to be fully functional. Banging my head with this one but thanks for all the suggestions so far.
Keep them coming though.

In order for your new setup to work, you can't take 1 line from LNB1 and 1 line from LNB 2 and connect them to your EA multiswitch like you normally do for your sw21.
1. You have to take both lines from LNB1(91) and connect them to the multiswitch1. 2. Then take both lines from LNB 2(82) and connect them to the other multiswitch2. 3. From there you can take 1 line from multiswitch 1 and 1line from multiswitch 2 and connect both to a SW21 switch. Connect the SW21 to your receiver and run a check switch in your receiver menu. You should be able to receive all your regular channels from both sats (91 and 82). You can repeat step 3 for up to 3 extra receivers in your house. |

For future reference - you can use a SW44 in place of 2 multis and 4 SW21s.
It takes the feed from both ports on both LNBs and pipes out 4 outputs. Power is line fed from a splitter usually located indoors. |
