Default MTS TV Help/Advice Please

We purchased the LG 50" Plasma (50PC5D) and are happy with the picture quality, the satellite works great. Problem is. . .when we try to view TV using our cable provider (MTS TV), the top and bottom of the screen is cut off. We've swited the ratio on the cable box to 16:9 which did not change anything.
Our sales guy is telling us it is an MTS TV problem and we need to pick out another TV, a lower end TV. When I talk to MTS customer support, they say it is a fault with the TV

I'm not sure who to believe. Ideas? Suggestions?

I'm a little confused. You mention satellite but also MTS TV. Do you have both?

I don't have MTS, primarily because their picture quality is crappy, but I've never heard of anyone having this type of problem with them.

I also don't think it's actually the TV. You bought a reputable brand. But it could very well be the connections or the setups. It's probably not much help but these things are often very individual.

I only figured out how to properly set things up through trial and error. And I have a family member in the business who actually did the original setup for me. But it didn't work right. So after a month or so I took the whole thing apart and reconnected things in a way that made more sense to me. And it worked. But I've also had to play with my TV and cable box (Shaw for me) settings too.

What type of connections are you using? Component or HDMI? These can make a difference. Are you routing through a receiver?

The problem with this stuff is that no one works together to make systems compatible. You have to futz with things, sometimes a lot, to make it work.

Check your connections to make sure all that's OK. Check your setups - both against any manuals you have and also using your own common sense (which generally works better anyway!).

If that fails you might try the Digital Home Canada forum. There are some very smart people over there who have hooked up all sorts of things and solved many a problem.

Good luck!
