Just to give a quick progress report. Having used the 30 sec. skip for the last week, I haven't had one program freeze up on me.
And as a quick aside, I still am waiting, (One week Later) for a Shaw technician to call to defrag my hard drive. Talk about great customer service. |

How do you do the 30 sec skip? I didn't know you could do that.
I'd be thrilled if I could use it and avoid some of the problems!

Thanks! That site has tons of great information and in addition to the info about the skip button it also mentioned a solution to another problem I was having.
Made my day!

I have had 4- 6412 HDPVR boxes installed by Shaw and all have had the recurring problem of power recycling. I have a brand new 37" LG HD TV and connected with a 'Gold" Monster" HDMI cable 1m long. I have been chasing this problem with Shaw for 15 mths. Shaw has said that they are aware of the problem and it will be fixed by a new firmware load from Motorola. I have talked to Motorola about this firmware fix and they say it is Shaw's problem , not their's.

Wasted - I had a similar problem and it appears to be the HDMI connection. Switching to component cables solved it for me but the PQ isn't quite as good. On the Digital Home Canada forum there is mention of Shaw doing a new firmware update across the board this week. Starting in Vancouver on the 4th.
However, these reports aren't always accurate and I wouldn't hold my breath just yet. Still, keep b*tching to Shaw. It seems to be the only way to get action and at least it keeps your problems in their database. Mcfly - I was going to suggest that your signal strength is your problem since that's usually it for pixelation. But if that's OK maybe you should have them swap your box. And check your cables too. If you live in a house and the cable was installed years ago it could be the problem. I had to have my whole house rewired, including the cabling out to the back lane connection, just to solve some problems. All free from Shaw, of course. Also, there are some channels that just pixelate. Fox and NBC are the 2 worst for me. It may have something to do with the originating signal which, unfortunately, you can't do anything about. BTW, do you leave your PVR on all the time? That seems to help eliminate many problems with this machines. Sounds counter-intuitive but if you keep turning the machines off and on they glitch more. And make absolutely sure that your machine is cooling properly. Heat can increase glitching too.
