I'm living in a remote community in northern Canada. Would like to upgrade to BEV HD. Before subscribing, I'm trying to see if I can pick up the 82 signal using my existing 3100/5900 receiver. I was told I require a second dish due to the sepation of signal between the two satellites. Still couldn't pick up a signal at all for 82, would not move off of 0%.
I'm using the coordinates from satsig.net. My gps coordinates are 60.22611 west and 55.44833 north. That should give me a dish elevation of 23.87 degrees and 232 derees E of magnetic north. Am I doing something wrong?? One of the BEV customer service reps said I may need a larger dish. But shouldn't I get some sort of signal off of their regular size dishes? |

One 'gotcha' with dual LNB set ups (presumably including dual dish) is that the receiver needs to switch from one to the other. There is a 'test sequence' or somesuch to do that. If you don't run the test sequence, it won't ever switch the LNBs correctly.
So, in southern Ontario, I couldn't find my 2nd satellite until I figured that out. |

I can't use the dual lnb up here. I need a totally separate dish to pick up 82. Tried the 2nd dish to no avail. I spent most of an afternoon on the phone with Bell and they told me I was SOL. They said I could try and purchase a larger dish off of kusat. com and see if that work, but couldn't guarantee it.
We have a huge problem with Bell in this area anyway as the even transponders have very little signal here, just over 50%. Most days any channel that's on an even transponder glitches, and almost half of the time we have no signal on even transponders at all. I doubt it would even be worth getting HD if I could... On the other hand I am at 87% with the odd transponders. |

You have to think this through: the two satellites are in geostationary orbit, only separated by a few degrees. If they are both transmitting the same power, then you should be able to get one or the other with two separate dishes. But you aren't receiving anything from the second satellite. Assuming you are pointing at the right point in space, how do you know the LNB, cable, etc., is good? How do you know the STB is selecting the right LNB (dish)? I have had a similar problem. I just gave you useful information as to how the system sets up the switch. This was how I corrected it. Do you want a solution or just to complain? |
