Default Wiring for New House - Newbie Question(s)

Hi all,

My new house will begin to be built in the next few months and I was wondering what is the correct wiring gauge / specification to ask the builder to install for BEV HD viewing? I've seen RG6 mentionned - is that the right one?

I want the flexibility of having more than one (not sure of correct wording) "satellite connection wall jack" since I'd like to view HD on more than one TV -. Is there a recommended type / model of this satellite connection wall jack that I should ask the builder to install or is this a function of the BEV technician who will install the satellite and connect the system? Thanks so much for your help. Dan

RG6 quad shield is the way to go. Where is your place being built? I havwe a company that does all pre wires for SAT alarm audio etc and they do awesome work if you are in Ontario let me know and I can send you their info.

Rg6 is the correct wire but quad shield is unnecessary and whoever puts on the ends will cuss you for using it. It has been proven that there is no benefit to using quad shield and it can be problematic.

All I use is quad shield and have no problems with it. I even have my own snap n seal tool and connectors for quad cable.

You may also want to run speaker wires and a junction box. Having the wires hidden is certainly a wife pleaser especially if you are going to have surround sound.

So true the wife hates seeing the speaker wire poking out from wherever you try to hide it in the room. I actually ran some u channel and capped it for all our speaker wires just to get them out of her sight.

What exact tool and connectors do you use and and could you recommend a place to buy them?

I use the AUGAT LRC IT 1000 snap n seal tool it also has the wirestripper in the handle that works very well. you will need to get the violet connectors for quadshield mind you the tool has a guide on it for different cable and the corresponding connectors. I picked mine up at Nedco but any place like that should carry it or a variant of it. I also picked up my BIX tools and other cabling equipment from them.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'll be taking a look at Nedco.

No problem at all if they don't have the exact same tool they will have one very similar and it will do the same job.
