Default 1080i vs 720p

Does anyone know or have an opinion as to whether 720p is better than 1080i. I have an expressvue 9200, which has a max 1080i output. I just purchased a samsung 52" LCD 1080p which does not allow me to lower the resolution to 1080i, in order to match the satelite receiver. If I lower the output on the receiver to 720p, would that be a better match. I have read extensivley, the difference between interlacing and progressive scan, im just not sure if the receiver needs to be set to the same as the imput on the TV.

As long as your TV will accept the 1080i signal then that's what I would use. ABC, FOX and ESPN are the only 720p providers and if your satellite receiver will allow a pass through mode, then that would allow the 720p sources to be sent through to the TV. Overall with a 1080p set the 1080i output would be what I'd use. But use your own eyeballs because there are so many variables that it is hard to predict what will look best on your equipment.

Thanks, my eyeballs are starting to bug out. lol I do like the 1080i and the 1080p. I was just wondering if they are fighting each other(i vs p). Or do they get along better if they are both P.

The 1080i transmission format will get along with a 1080p TV as long as it has a proper deinterlacer. For more information about this you might want to check out: The 1080p HDTVs
