we have replaced standard tv with a HD,lcd, digital set.We are on starchoice sattelite. if we decide to add on the HI DEF besides installing a new elliptical dish and a new receiver what else is needed?
Also if we do get hI DEF to the main set only, will it also go to the sets in other rooms too, or do we need to add some parts |

thanks for your reply.
If the main tv is on a HD channel, would a set in another room be able to watch the SAME channel, but not in HD? |

[quote=rbinck]As long as the other set had a SD receiver, sure. As far as sending the output from the HD receiver to the SDTV in another room, there can be problems with that depending on the particular HD receiver
************************************************* I gather then that without some type of extra equipment, etc that there would be no Hi-Def signal to the set in the other room. |

I'm not sure I understand the question. If you are using a single receiver now with the RF coax output run to the other room and tuning to channel 3 or 4 on the TV, then what you say is correct, a HD signal cannot be modulated and sent over the coax. In fact most of the HD satellite receivers do not have a RF output anymore.
If you have a SD receiver in the other room it will operate the same as it does now. If you want to send a HD signal to a remote set the easiest way would be to run a component cable and stereo audio cables. Hook up the main TV with HDMI and the remote TV with the component video. Thanks for your reply.
what i'm actually asking is; if i install a new hi-def dish and a new hi-def receiver to my new hi- def tv, if i am viewing a hi-def channel on it, will the standard non hi-def set that is in another room get any reception at all of that SAME channel that the new hi-def set is viewing.? if it does show the same channel will it be in hi-def, standard,or just blank( no picture at all.) |

If your other TV is connected to a SD satellite receiver, it will work the same with a HD dish.
