Default Switched to Rogers, bad move?

Newbie here, hoping for some insight.

I bought myself an early X-mass present, a Samsung HLS6187 61"DLP set with 1080p. Picked it up on November 27th. As of today, it is still not hooked up thanks to Bell. I have been with BEV for 6 years with 3 receivers. They cancelled one appoitment on me last week than did not show yesterday. They have done this to me in the past as well, nothing like taking time off work for no reason.

I'd had enough last night, called Rogers and worked out a deal. Installation tomorrow. I'm nervous now that the picture quality will not be as good as Bell having read some of the older posts here. Have they improved or are they still not as good? I have to say I wont miss losing signal in snow and thunder storems or having to go out and scrape ice off the dish in the middle of winter.

Also, is there anything I should no to be sure I'm hooked up right? I'm wondering if the line into my house is able to support HD?

thanks for the help!

i use rogers and im happy with it.. the picture quality is great especially on HD and even SD.. HOWEVER it is really all Dependant on the show and/or the channel itself.

the only thing i hate about them is here in New Brunswick we have a box that SUCKS! it cant record while watching another channel, you cant set multiple record times that conflict with eachother(and reminder times) and the controller sucks in terms of range, response and the fact that more then half the features on the controller dont do shit. also the box is loud and HOT! hot hot hot baby., it also has a ton of stuff that doesnt work on it for example the smart media card slot, the USB port(both which are non-functional).

i "think" rogers uses RG6 cables but im not 100% sure. so far watching HD has been very satisfying(HDnet always looks gorgeous! while HDPBS always looks bad)

Rodgers is not 100% digital, thats why some sd channels look crap.Use the HDMI connection for best results on HD.

Wow, their website clearly states 100% digital service,so it better be!

Do they supply an HDMI cable with the box or do I need to purchase seperately?

Well, I'm all set up on Rogers now. The tech was scheduled for yesterday between 8-11 am, was at my door at 8:01. Job was quick and tidy.

Watched my fav sitcom King of Queens last night in hi def, very cool! Then watched the Sens-Caps game on TSN HD, awesome! Awesome picture quality and sound.

How sweet it is to speak with my dollars and tell Bell to take a hike! Even in cancelling I had to wait 20 minutes to get through.

For those that were wondering the Rogers HD boxes do have an HDMI output.

the Rogers HD box in Atlantic Canada does NOT come with the HDMI output, only DVI output.

I have Rogers and HDPVR, no compalints here. Some SD channels are terrible, but anything compared to HD does. The new HDNET station has some great music concerts in HD and 5.1 Enjoy!

BTW, have mine connected through my rec. so HDMI will not work. It works if it's connected direct to tv only. The difference using component is negligable.

Default Update

Well, managed to hit the couch pretty hard this weekend!

Caught the Leafs losing their 7th straight in HD Saturday night, followed by a Sunday afternoon of NFL in HD and the HBO mini-series on TMN "Tsunami".

Absolutely no complaints, incredible HD image!

Default Why use component instead of DVI?

Anybody know why the Rogers HDTV box set up recommends using component wires instead of the available DVI output? In fact, they don't even mention the DVI output on the set up chart??? I thought using the component wires from the box meant that the tv has to convert the analog signal to digital but if you used the DVI output, it is already digital (the tv doesn't have to convert).
Sorry if hyjacking but the thread has already gone a bit to the wayside, it still deals with Rogers provider. Thanks

In Ont., the Rogers SA3250HD does support DVI, but they don't advertise it.

I set mine up, and it works, however, Rogers is not using the latest software (for over a year now) and I always got a message saying HDCP error when it first connected (then it disappeared after a few seconds).

That message became a nuisance, so I stopped using DVI.

Same thing with Expressvu. I have watched supposedly HD broadcasts which looked no better than SD. I remember watching a couple of CFL playoff games on CBC back in the Fall which looked like total crap.

I noticed the DVI output on the cable box and ordered a DVI to HDMI cable only to find out after the fact that the DVI output is not functional. I'm not sure if this is only true on the single tuner HD PVR cable box that Rogers provides in New Brunswick or all of their boxes. Fortunately, the cable was dirt cheap. (not unlike me)
