Greetings everyone, This is my first post on this fourm. Lots of great information on here. I've just setup my Panny 50" Plasma and everything is awesome. The only thing I want to do before i close everything up is install an exernal drive on my Explorer 8300HD. I've seen threads on this form about it. My question is where can I buy the Maxtor QVX Expander 300GB drive in Canada?
Thanks in advance Cheers |

If you can wield a screwdriver you can do what I did:
I took the plunge and purchased the following at what I believe to be a very good price: Vantec Nexstar 3 External 3.5IN SATA Black Hard Drive Enclosure USB2.0 W/ Power Adaptor & Stand (all cables that you would need) Western Digital 500GB SATA2 Hard Drive 7200RPM 16MB Cache 3.5IN 8.9MS SE-16 3 Year Warranty Total price including shipping and insurance: 268$ Can from DirectCanada. The shipping took about two days. I followed the instruction to install this hard drive. Assembly and installation into my system took about 20 mins. The formatting of the hard drive by the system (including only one reboot) took a surprisingly short time. Perhaps 10 mins in total. From what my system tells me, I will be able to record and store 90 hrs of HD. |

Hi and thanks for the information. It sounds excellent. Can you please point me to the website as when I google "Direct Canada", the only computer related site that I see is "Tiger Direct". Party Numbers would also be helpful!!
Thanks |

Try typing dot com after the name of the store.
I looked for the part numbers and found the WD : WD5000KS and the Vantec NST-360SU-BK (this is the black, I believe the blue will also work). I looked at the site and the WD is not in stock. Maybe you could email them and find out when they will be in stock. |

Thanks for the information. What has your experience been since you setup the external HDD on your PVR? Have you had any PVR issues or any HDTV viewing issues? I have read on this fourm that some people have had problems and had to change cables.
Did you have to order any other cables to connect the Vantec box to your 8300PVR? Thanks Chris. |

All cables are included with the Vantec.
I have had the odd glitch or two on playback. This is about the same as before the installation of the Hard Drive. I believe the Seagate is more problematic. I would recommend the WD without hesitation. |
