Hey,
I live in Halifax, NS and have Eastlink Digital Cable. Sometimes I have problems with the HD feed. Sometimes if I am watching or dvr'ing something in Hi-Def I will have 1 of two problems. 1. The picture will break up in certain areas of the screen (Small little boxes and refresh) 2. Sometimes the sound will cut out for about 3-5 seconds every minute or so. It does not happen all the time but when it does you can't watch the show, it is that bad. I was hoping someone might have an idea of what this problem is.

What you are describing is, I believe, called pixelation. Those of us with satellite see it often, especially during heavy rain.
What happens is that, due to missing or weak signal, the data gets errors, causing picture break up. Obviously, too much noise means no picture, so this is a sort of threshold thing. I would not have expected to see it on cable, however, because the signal strength should be good all the time. Unless it is a problem at the source (i.e. the cable head end) it could be a set top box problem or a problem with the actual cable itself. Do your neighbours have the same problem? This is probably a cable company problem, whether they want to help or not |
