Hi,
And thanks for the headsup. I went and picked mine up yesterday.

Apparrantly the programming package that I had was not available with the new PVR and If I decided to take basic cable and the PVR with the HD channels (I already have the HD decoder which I rent), it would cost more money than I pay now!!!

Anyway, after a call to HQ, they let me keep the bundle I had and charged me an extra $11.00 something a month. I had rented the non HD PVR for a couple of months earlier this rear and found that I used it a fair amount so I hope that will go double for the HD one.

Default HD PVR with DVI

As of now my understanding is that the Rogers 8000HD (SciAtl) doesn't have the DVI port enabled? I wonder what the difference in image quality is between the DVI and the analog HD connection.

Default No DVI enabled?

That's the final piece darn it. I have DVI out from my computer video card and it's pretty cool. If I could get DVI out from the box then I'd have true digtial video. I would have the best audio/video system of all the people I know! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Wait, I already have the best system.

Never mind.

Ah well, when they figure out a way to enable it then I'll look into paying the extra. But for now, with timeshifting, I'll live.

Default Dvi

another forum suggested that Scientific Atlanta would be enabling the port maybe August. It's not a Rogers issue, if you check out the 8000HD manual from SA they clearly indicate that it's not enabled, just like the USB or ethernet ports on their other terminals. If you're renting an 8000HD you can probably just exchange it when the new one comes out.

Hi! Just wondering if this will be available to Bell users as well. I am one of the fools who actually bought the bell 8000. How do recognize early adopters? We are the ones with arrows all over our backs.

Default should be able to buy

You could/can buy the 8000 PVR (ie the non-HD version) from Rogers. So I would expect the same with the 8000HD PRV. Don't know if it's compatible with the Bell service.

The ExpressVu HD PVR should be out shortly. They are discounting the 6000 to clear it. Most likely, it'll be a Dish DVR 921.

Default 3250HD DVI enabled??

Has anyone seen the 8000HDPVR rogers (Sci-Atl) cable box with this supposed DVI port enabled? I am wondering if they are planning on doing the same with the 3250HD box (non-pvr)??

No, the SA8000HD is for cable service only.

DVI is expected to be activated in September or October latest. It has been activated for the 3250 in both US and Canada to enable testing. It is important to see a resolution of conflicts for certain HDTV's resolved before activation for the 8000HD because the full impact of the HDCP protocole will be felt for DVR recordings.

For a CRT RPTV, the difference, if any, is not expected to be great (PQ with component is great already). For digital display sets there will be a marked difference.

But for those with DVRs, the HDCP protocole associated with DVI (or HDMI) will determine recording conditions.

Default It is enabled on the regular HD just not the PVR

I have two HD tvs and to units one 3250 HD and one 8000 HD. The DVI works on the 3250 HD but not on the 8000 HD. I don't care what anyone says, the picture through the DVI connection on the 3250 HD is unbeilable a real difference from the component conection. It really easy to tell just look at your screen between channels. The definition, the colours the clarity...watching the 3250 HD with a DVI connection is so far the best image I have ever seen on my TV and I have 2 DVD players the Sony 9000ES with compentent out and the new Samsung with DVI (the Sony is still way better), but the 3250 HD smokes everything!

to answer my own question. i went and purchased a dvi to hdmi for my new 3250hd and it works beautifully. digital to digital. The colour depth is much better. Also, the normal non-HD digital channels look much better with this setup.

I bought my cable from www.pccables.com for $50 CDN - Gold plated, but it took almost 2.5 weeks for delivery. It was worth the wait.
