Default I have officially given up on ROgers HD

I have returned my TV to FutureShop and have Returned my HD box. I will have to wait liek the rest of us for years to come until HD becomes standardized.

Thumbs up Rogers Upgrade

Rogers had a disclaimer running last week on its "01" station stating that the digital box software would be "upgraded" on Tuesday the 1st.

Up until that point my HD would drop sound, and pixelate or drop image, randomly. It got so bad that the prior Sunday afternoon the regular digital channels started doing the same thing. I had a guy come out on the Monday and look everything over. He said that everything was fine but I should keep the HD box in a larger area (to keep it cool). So I moved the box, and since Tuesday the 2nd (upgrade day) I have had no pixelizations, no dropped images, and no dropped sound.

I did however have a complaint from the people upstairs that the bass was shaking their stuff when I was watching the second Harry Potter last night.

This is a new (and expensive) technology. We are on the cutting edge here. Those of us willing to put down the cash for a set that may be 3/4 the height of a 4:3 ratio TV at half the price are kinda like pioneers. But just like all technologies they ain't gonna be perfect out the gate.

I am in a townhome "complex" and a Bell system is not an option. I would like to hear more about the differences (between Rogers and Bell) as the only thing I have heard is that there is less HD channels on Bell. Here in Toronto (including one preview and two PayPerView channels) Rogers provides 19 HD channels.

Default ExVU

I have expressvu and have no complaints with their HD coverage, They have 15 channels of HD, all the networks plus TSN and Discovery ( Joke). The latter two have HD license but rarely any HD content. To answer the thread regarding EXVU they have as much HD as the current network feeds give them. I have had no problems with my 6000 box and compared to the alternate SHAW who it seems are anti-HD with 5 HD channels 3 of which carry the same information ( total waist of bandwidth) there is just no comparison.

Hi Guys,
I live in a Toronto (Etobicoke) condo. I have no choice I'm Rogerized completly including HS internet and as of last week the new SA8000hd PVR/decoder.

I'm also an early adopter having gotten my hd ready Tosh 65H80 in Oct 2000 and even went down to Fedex to pickup one of the first SA3100hd boxes as they arrived in Toronto. Like others I've had signal problems from time to time as well as dropouts, (going channel fw/channel bk) seemed to fix it most of the time but unlike a friend of mine who is constantly bragging about calling up Rogers and reading them the riot act, (they completely ignore him and his problems), I find a combination of being pleasant with occaisional begging seems to get me pretty good service.

Believe me when I say their far from perfect but for me (and lots of others) who are captive audiences, My HDTV and NOW my ability to record those late nite shows in HD is certainly worth the extra $11.00 a month. I found the unit a little noisy, so I put a heavy book on it and the noise went away. If it burns out for lack of ventilation it will encourage them to alter their design while the give me another machine.

Anyway, when their the only game in town you make the best of it or go back to rabbit ears.

Just to add my 2 cents.

I just recently switched from Bell to Rogers.

I had bought the 6000 last summer along with a Sony HDTV, although very impressed with the HD (the little bit there was), I often wondered if over 4 grand of electronic equipment was worth it. I, along with many of you, believe that it was... The 6000 is over 3 years old now, and it is starting to show its age. I paid almost 800 dollars for this box and I was expecting State of the Art... Instead I got slow a*s menu/guide, and having to switch from SD/HD along with video input on my TV to vue HD... very anoying.

Happy for me, I just sold my 6000 on Ebay for over 500 US, so I am happy to have recovered most of my cost.

I have been with Rogers since last Saturday... And I have to tell you I am VERY happy so far. The DVI output on the Motorola DT6208 produces visibly better picture in both HD and SD (compared to component). There seems to be less pixelation. With the 6802's wonderfull PVR capabilities, I was able to "pause" the picture in SD and HD and then closely compare the DVI to Component... BIG difference!

So for me, Rogers is number one right now (at lease until Bell rolls out a HD STB with DVR and DVI output ... and duel tuner!).

You should have heard the Bell rep when I called to cancel. I think he would have gave me his first born to keep me... Like I told him, I have no loyalties... I will go with whoever is offering the best technology... and right now its Rogers. I will happily switch back when its Bell.

Default Rogers goes down again

I posted earlier about how the latest software "upgrade" had fixed my recent pixel and sound drop off problems. That changed last night.

All day yesterday the picture was great. My family and my partner's family were all by for Father's Day. My dad got to experience NASCAR in full HD widescreen. He loved it. Everything was fine until they all left and I sat down to watch the MuchMusic Video Awards.

For the first time they were being broadcast in HD. A big deal. I had even received an automated voice mail phone message reminding me of them. Nothing like voice spam for something I already have, but I digress.

After 5 minutes everything went. I mean, no video, no audio. I lost all the digital channels as well. I called Rogers and they reset the box, told me to pull out the cable and put it back in and such. But nothing worked. The guy on the phone said that my signal was weak. But I had a guy out on June 1st and he said the signal was fine. They have no record of the guy coming out on the 1st. They have it down that I cancelled the appointment.

So now I have to have another guy come out on Thursday to tell me what's wrong. I figure that he's going to tell me what the last guy did, get a new box, and that won't fix anything.

I don't get it. Everything has worked perfectly for the past three weeks almost. Everything worked perfectly all yesterday afternoon. Then at 9pm I have a weak signal and its something to do with the equipment at my place. This morning everything works perfect again.

*sigh*
