Default 6412-III + HDMI-to-DVI = "dU1"??

I just got the 6412 Phase 3. My TV is a Sony KP-65WV700, which has a DVI input (HDCP compatible).

To connect them, the store sold me 2 items:
- HDMI to DVI Adapter
- DVI cable

So I plug the adapter to the back of the 6412, and the DVI cable to the adapter, then to the TV.

When I plug it into the STB, the front of the box displays "dU1" or "dUI". It basically freezes up, and I have to unplug it to get it back.

Audio through the optical cable still works. However the box is defaulted to ch.1, and it's non-responsive otherwise (i.e. I cant change channels or turn it off).

Shaw tech support and the techician that came over dont know what's wrong. The tech swapped me a new box too, but it does the same thing.

I googleld "dU1" and "dUI" and read about the 'handshaking' that occurs. I had both the STB and TV off. Then I did:
1) TV on
2) TV set to DVI input
3) I see the dU1 on the STB

At this point the Power LED on the STB is already on. I tried waiting for the dU1 to disappear, then I tried pressing the power button on the box, but none of the buttons respond. Again, I have to unplug it to reset it.

The box WORKS with Component cables. But I had to unplug my DVD player right now, so that's only a temporary solution (plus I'd much rather use HDMI/DVI).

Anyone come across this issue?? Tomorrow I'm going to try and get a different HDMI adapter/DVI cable (maybe go the other way, get a HDMI cable, with a HDMI to DVI adapter for the back of my TV?). Else maybe there's a chance the DVI on the back of my TV is faulty? I've had the TV for 4yrs, and I've never tried the DVI (it's still under warranty).

Any help or insight would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

Gary

I don't know why you need an "adapter".
Why can't you just run the the HDMI to DVI cable straight from the cable box to the tv? That's what I do with mine. It seems to work fine.

Because the store didnt have a straight cable. They sold me an adapter, and a DVI cable.

I've since changed to a HDMI-to-DVI cable. Doesnt fix the problem.
