Default 9200 Problems!!

We are experiencing the interrruptions in replay mode - pauses, pixeling etc. - just got the box and Bell says a new software load will fix it, but no idea when!! We only have one tv and got conflicting advice on which remote to use -- we prefer using the number 2 remote, as it is uhf with more flexibility -- any advice?

We have a new Samsung 40 inch lcd panel - and when we are tuning various channels we cannot control the picture mode with the Samsung remote -- and on some so-called HD signals, we only get a partial screen. Any advice or ideas?

Finally -- with this new Samsung, we can get a decent picture on 1080i - but a Bell tech said that 720p would be better ---??? And what screen mode/size should we use? One said 4:3 (2) and another said 16x9 -- very frustrating dealing with the Bell people.

We had a standard pvr before this, and it worked perfectly -- we are tempted to return the 9200 but feel that eventually this thing will be straightened out -- still, we believe Bell is cheating us by accepting our $700 plus installation --- with this level of quality.

Any advice on this would be most welcome.

I can't answer everything, but if you go to this forum, you'll probably find more answers:
http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/

I'd recommend using 1080i, most HD stations broadcast at 1080i and your TV will scale that to it's native resolution better than the STB will.
I'd also use 16:9, the TV and STB will automatically adjust the screen size for 4:3 content. You can use the zoom features on either to scale it up to you liking.
Sorry I can't help with your other questions, but try that link.
Good Luck

Default 9200 Problems

Thanks for the advice - we have set the 9200 to 1080i and format to 16x9 -- but the Samsung seems to be unable to scale the picture now -- i will contact Samsung to see what, if anything can be done to address this.

Thanks again -- the 9200 has, however, proven to be impossible to use on playback of HD programming -- every 10 seconds, literally, it goes into spasms of silence and pixellating --- sigh. I am going to contact Bell and seek some sort of relief.

As you can see here, they say the fix is due in about a week from now (I'm not holding my breath, but it should be around this time or they're giving me a rental credit).

Default 9200 Problems update

Just for the record - the box we had got worse, so we contacted Bell again, and they have sent a new one, and it is working just fine so far, whereas the other one NEVER worked really. So whether it is really a software issue or not is a question -- the new one is fine really, apart from screen size changing issues - the box seems to interact with my Samsung lcd unit so i can't stretch screen with the samsung remote -- i assume this is "normal".

It is. 16x9 is 16x9, so no stretching.

Cool 9200 software update MIA

We purchased our 9200 about two months ago, unaware of the software 'hiccup' issue during recording playback and while watching anything that isn't LIVE. Every HD recording (and most SD, although choking is every minute instead of every 5 seconds) are affected.

I've made numerous calls to tech staff - a dozen or more. They must be sick of me!

OMG - Finally today, a computer recorded voice msg from Bell saying a software update for the 9200 PVR would be taking place within the next 48 hours! How fabulous that this update will give us the ability to search by actor! My God, Tivo's had that and a zillion other search capabilities for eons!

I called this afternoon and got a CE who did admit the primary reason for the upgrade is to fix the 9200 freeze problem. He advises to turn the PVR OFF at night (for the next few days), then on again each morning. When the receiver powers up - and does the 'standby for signal', 'guide info download', etc., the programming will also update.

Anyone who gets anything other than the V42 version - please post and let us know!! There must be more than a handful of us out there waiting for the update...

...don't hold your breath...

Angry Softare Update SNAFU!

Bell has finally released the V143MBJD-N version for us!

After an hour of testing - sadly, whatever they updated does NOT fix the freezing, glitching, pixelating problem.

Too impressed for words, I called Bell and was told "Your input is apprecated, Mam - but the release for that problem is not due out till next week." I don't know what's more embarassing; telling somebody you got duped into buying a 9200 - - - or being an Xpressvu employee. Bell should have worked on fixing this huge HD PVR problem instead of putting resources into new 'search' features that nobody cares about.

I'm ripped! Incompetence abounds.

V145MBJD-N software update works!!

Thanks for letting me rant and rave; after doing more investigating on another forum and using directions from members there to reset the 9200, the software update did the trick! No more freezing, pixilating during playback of HD or SD recordings or watching anything in the buffer (ie: pausing live).

Not surprisingly, Bell just neglected to tell everybody how to go about getting the PVR to upgrade properly. Just turning off the unit using the remote doesn't cut it. Many thanks to a member of another forum who did all the hard work and posted this:

After you update the firmware do a hard reboot this is exactly how 3rd level tech walked me through it unplug both satelite connections and the Power then plug power back in power on and plug both satelite connections back in after it the programming finally comes back on go into dish pointing and run a switch test after that it reruns the signal test redownloads the guide and after I recored something for a half-hour no stutter so far!

Did any of you folks have problems with programs you recorded before the upgrade info was downloaded no longer working? I had the entire season of 24 (up to that point) in HD on the hard-drive, but I had to erase it as the files got corrupted. Pain in the ass!!
