Default Possible Newbie Question

I just returned my Rogers HD box yesterday due to Ted deciding to put the cost up. It was already too expensive, so I couldn't justify paying the extra money they wanted...and I also couldn't justify it to my g/f either.

Anyway. My question is this: They, Rogers, now have my HD box. However, I know that the signal is still coming here. (Why would they shut it off, if I don't have their box to display it?) Does anyone know where I can buy an HD box? I figure that if I hook it up, I'll still get all my same channels, but without paying for it.

Any help?

Thanks.

you can buy HDboxes at futureshop or sears..i think pretty much any electronic store, try "The Source" also... good luck.

personally i think its pretty cheap for the HD rogers box(non-DVR?PVR), here in Atlantic Canada its only like $9.99 for the first 4months then about $15bucks per month afte that i believe..

Nice try... each box is individually addressed, the signal is always going out... but you need a box that is 'turned on' and the channels you want activated. You might be able to buy a box, but that doesn't mean that it's turned on... and most likely the code of the box isn't in the sequence Rogers prefers. I have heard some 3rd party boxs have got turned on.. but it's rare.

I just know that when I moved into this adddress, and I plugged my box in here, I had every channel. Then when I called Rogers to get my bill switched over, suddenly I lost all the channels.

Thanks for the replies.

I think you are S.O.L. on your idea as the set top box communicates back to the cable provider's head-end and vice-versa. Therefore, the new stb wouldn't be recognized by the cable company as it hasn't been "authorized" i.e. officially activated.
